Official Lounge Loser Role Call Thread #2! It lives!
The original thread was getting SOOO HUGE that I decided to start a new one.
I wanted to take this opportunity to explain to all of you a little more about my evil plans.
You see, I've come to realize that there are a few (well more than a few) people in this here Lounge, and on DU overall, that are just plain lonely.
For whatever reason, whether life has got them down, whether they are lacking in friends or feel isolated, they feel alone.
My purpose is to give them a voice.
I realize that this is probably overly ambitious, or maybe foolish, but I want those people who are feeling lonely...those of you who posted in the original Lounge Loser thread, those of you who are reading this and haven't posted...
I want all of you to feel you can belong when you're with us. I know that me and kjasa and texanwitch and SPK and the rest can't actually hug you or be right there with you...but we can listen, and be supportive.
I mean, I want us all to have fun, to take care of one another, to basically become a bit of a support network.
This is my grand ambition.
No, this isn't group therapy. This is friendship.
I just wanted all of you to know...that you will be accepted here.
Next up...I'll get together a list of all the people who posted on Thread #1 and compile our 'membership' so to speak :)
Anyway, busy busy.
If you think my ideas are horrible, well, you don't have to have any part of it...just be gentle, I'm a loser, and my feelings get hurt easily :P

7. Yea! Phase Two has Begun!!

Thanks, Elrond.

This is a great beginning!

I also wanted to throw out an idea.

Maybe, to be the nice, inclusive group we are,
we could help kick the birthday and milestone
threads.
Those of us who have had only a few post there
for us know what that feels like. Our great mods
always helped out- let's help too!

19. if to be loser means to be one who has lost then yes i am a loser
i have lost so much...long story but:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbVKu01twxA

Go ahead and take your best shot,
Let 'er rip, give it all you've got,
I'm laid out on the floor, but I've been here before,
I may stumble, yeah I might fall,
Only human aren't we all?
I might lose my way, but hear me when i say,

I will stand back up,
Youll know just the moment when ive have enough,
Sometimes im afraid, and i dont feel that tough,
But I'll stand back up,

I've been beaten up and bruised,
I've been kicked right off my shoes,
Been down on my knees more times than youd believe,
When the darkness tries to get me,
Theres a light that just wont let me,
It might take my pride, and my tears may fill my eyes,
But I'll stand back up,

I've weathered all these stroms,
But i just turn them into wind, so i can fly,
What dont kill you makes you stronger,
When I take my last breath,
Thats when I'll just give up,

So, go ahead to take your best shot,
Let 'er rip, give it all you've got,
You might win this round but you cant keep me down,

'Cause I'll stand back up,
And you'll know just the moment when ive had enough,
Sometimes im afraid and I dont feel that tough,
But I'll stand back up,

Youll know just the moment when ive had enough,
Sometimes I'm afraid and I dont feel that tough,
But I'll stand back up.

And I like to listen.
I'm glad you had an idyllic childhood. Mine was quite the opposite, lol.
The ANS threads were indeed a total bummer. Proof of the depths to which DU can stoop at times. But don't let it get you down too much. You've got us, right? We must count for something, even if we ARE losers ;)

24. 12 hour day at work
and ungrateful and nasty boss. i was sitting at my desk, nearing my 12th hour when my boss tells another one of my co-workers to go home because she doesn't want him to be too tired and get burnt out. then she pulled a project i'd been working on all week and gave me a new one that i have to get done before i leave tomorrow night.

i shouldn't bother me too much, but i didn't sleep well last night and had go get up and out of the house 3 hours earlier than normal and i forgot to take my meds, so today hit me a bit harder than normal.

32. That sucks. Heh, I know all about ungrateful nasty bosses.
When I worked at Ames, I had my drunken sot of a manager threaten to fire me on multiple occasions, even though I busted my ass at that store and he knew it.
I wasn't afraid of him, because I knew he couldn't AFFORD to fire me. He tried that shit with one of my coworkers once (an elderly man who didn't take crap from ANYBODY), saying 'maybe we should get someone younger to do your job instead'
And the old man's response was: "Fire me, motherfucker."
The dickhead manager didn't have the balls. He just walked away in a huff.
Ah, happy days, happy times
Hang in there, though. Hope your friday is an okay day.

Had a staff meeting at work today. It got ugly. Staff meetings often do. We have a small staff (only about 50), so we're close-knit, and conflicts can get pretty nasty...
today was one of those days...i was wearing my hoodie...i just pulled my hood up and hid myself, just wishing the stupid agruing would stop...i get so sick of it...i hate it when people fight and hurt each other.

Getting out and about can help, but it can be difficult to get started.

It really helps to start here, one post at a time.

You'll be surprised to see just how many people feel the way you do.

Don't worry about the spelling- you're doing fine.

Besides, that's what we have Spell Check for!

Yep, I'm not a morning person, yet my job
really doesn't care as long as I show up.

I'm looking forward to sleeping in a bit tomorrow
and Sunday, myself.
It's supposed to start raining here, tonight.
That's always nice to listen to while falling asleep.
I really hope it does. We've only had one inch of rain
this whole season. That's seven inches below normal.

Rain, rain, come today- please make the drought go away.

:hi:

We're on thread #2 and I didn't know about til now??? Geez I'm a loser! ;)

Friendship sounds good. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for something more... And I'm tired of hearing "Oh you'll meet somebody, you're a nice girl, and smart. Just be patient". I've been patient for going on 25 years now....I won't be young (or limber ;) ) forever!

Anyway....who wants espresso drinks? You name, I can make it! :hangover:

And it's "espresso"...lol...though I used to say "expresso" myself...that was before I became a barista. Now it's nothing but the best! I make espresso and damn good foam, if I do say so. :D

I need a coffee smiley...and not that hangover one...one that's more energetic! :bounce:

I keep looking at the missing miss_american_pie thread thinking, "Wow. If a bunch of folks I met online cared about my absence THAT much, then I'd feel like the second coming of Mary!" But alas, 'tis not to be. But I try to be confident. I TRY. Then I return to my mole hole where my apparent destiny involves burrowing through dirt and wondering if I will ever rise again to gasp one last breath of sweet open air and to feel the stick of morning dew.

Yours,

isn't that what this thread is all about and the great big joke therein? A LACK of popularity in the DU Lounge? Hence the "loser" title?

Or is this a 12 Step moment? "Hello. My name is Writer and I'm a DU Lounge Loser" followed by appropriate supporting comments?

pathetic and sad, but sociable.

I do not care for bowling though. I like it, but it is too expensive and I do not like machine scoring. Back in my university days I used to go by myself on Saturday mornings it was $2 an hour. Oddly enough, I was the only one there, which violates what I call the "Minnesota Principle" (which states that no matter what you are doing at whatever time somebody else will be there or happen by). I used to be able to bowl 6 games in an hour. Which was a great deal, even then. 6 games for $2. Now they want like $6 a game. Bleah.

71. I'll join in.
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 02:45 PM by Liberalynn
I've been on disability due to depression and anxiety for a few years now. I have my Mom, and my sister, and every once in awhile my cousins visit, but I don't get out all that much, and pretty much lost all my close friends with my job. I stressed out because of lay offs and a particularly nasty boss, who dumped all the work on me, and then blamed me for the screw ups on what little he actually did do. I was just crying all the time, and basically stopped enjoying life.

Now a days I'm doing better on the depression part, but have had little success in combatting the anxiety. I do have some on-line friends and that does help. My Mom and I my sister are supportive in many ways but they really don't always understand why I am the way I am and get frustrated with me a lot too. I feel like my counselor even gets frustrated with me too at times, so at those times I do feel really alone. I think she thinks I am messing with her completely cured rate or something. LOL.

I was a historical researcher and hope someday to go back to work at a new career but at this point I don't have any idea what that will be, how I will find the courage, or if any one will hire me to begin with. I'd also like to write but have problems silencing the inner critic, long enough to finish what I start. If I could research in a back corner of an office some where and not have a fire breathing boss over my shoulder I might be okay. I don't know. Any one know any jobs like that? LOL.

It's weird because in high school and college I got fantastic grades and the teachers loved me, but that one boss brought me back to my grade school fearful looser days.

So that's my Loser story. Hope its not too maudlin or weird.

I love animals especially dogs and cats, reading, and television, especially any show with Julian Mcmahon in it, and the computer, so that's how I get through my days. I have five cats. Four barn cats, Ernestine, Cole, Sparky, and Stormy. One dog, Maxie, and one indoor cat, Magee!

My feelings get hurt easily too, so I understand. I promise I'll be gentle and hope for gentleness too.

88. Thank you for sharing with us.
 I'm just a generally antisocial person myself. I get out with coworkers every now and then, and sometimes make a trip to New York City to visit one of my college friends, but that's about it as far as my social life is concerned. I live in a pretty small town with a heavy redneck population...nice folk, but people I just can't see eye-to-eye with. So I kind of...isolate myself from them. I could socialize more if I went down to poughkeepsie and such, but unless I'm specifically hanging out with coworkers, I don't like to put myself out there so much.
I dislike crowds, especially if I don't know anyone. I tend to be remote/cold/distant with people, which really damages friendship but utterly decimates my romantic relationships. I also am real ugly when I get depressed, which doesn't help things...
Basically, I'm a mess :P I can identify with a lot of what you're saying. I hate it when people just dismiss something that you feel, even when it seems silly. It's still a feeling, right?
Your story isn't in the least maudlin or weird. This is just how we are...for one reason or another.
I promise I won't get frustrated with you, I reserve my frustration for myself :P
In any case, we're here for you! Glad to have you among our ranks :)

P.S. I have three cats, a (dumb) standard poodle, and a sun conure :)

I love to write as well. I'm pretty shy about showing people my work, though.

I don't care for crowds either.

Glad to meet another person who is also likes both cats and dogs.

73. Well, it happened again.
I had just gotten a good new job about 6 months ago. I was beginning to feel pretty good and things were starting to come together.

My boss just came in and told me that they have decided to let me go.

It was just about a year ago that we had to sell our place in Central Texas because thanks to unemployment we were losing it to forclosure. I got a job here in Denton in January which turned out to be pretty lousy. Then I got this one.
Things seemed pretty good . . . I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but instead it seemed like it was going to work out . . . well, it dropped.

Things seemed good enoughtthat my wife went back to school and is finishing up her degree. She was going on to grad school this fall. Now because I can't hold a job I just don't know ....

Sory, didn't mean to go on like this.

114. Official Song of the Lounge Losers? How about this?
Rilo Kiley - A Better Son/Daughter
I totally love this song, and I think it fits us perfectly, but feel free to disagree ;)
Link to performance. The words are key.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw7SR6Q927k
Crank the volume, it's a bit hard to hear :)

Sometimes in the morning I am petrified and can't move
Awake but cannot open my eyes
And the weight is crushing down on my lungs
I know I can't breathe
And hope someone will save me this time
And your mother's still calling you insane and high
Swearing it's different this time
And you tell her to give in to the demons that possess her
And that god never blessed her insides
Then you hang up the phone and feel badly for upsetting things
And crawl back into bed to dream of a time
When your heart was open wide and you love things just because
Like the sick and dying

And sometimes when you're on
You're really fucking on
And your friends they sing along
And they love you
But the lows are so extreme
That the good seems fucking cheap
And it teases you for weeks in its absence
But you'll fight and you'll make it through
You'll fake it if you have to
And you'll show up for work with a smile
And you'll be better
You'll be smarter
More grown up and a better daughter or son
And a real good friend
And you'll be awake
You'll be alert
You'll be positive though it hurts
And you'll laugh and embrace all of your friends
And you'll be a real good listener
You'll be honest
You'll be brave
You'll be handsome and you'll be beautiful
You'll be happy

Your ship may be coming in
You're weak but not giving in
To the cries and the wails of the valley below
Your ship may be coming in
You're weak but not giving in
And you'll fight it you'll go out fighting all of them

136. Hi Elrond!

This is a good song.
You're right, the lyrics hit the nail on the head.

It's a toss-up between this and
Bob Seger's 'Beautiful Loser'.
Aren't we all Beautiful Losers?

I just love the title of BL and I'm so
partial to Bob Seger.

Maybe we could have two theme songs?

I know, I'm just a flip-flopping 'librul' !

Ok, now you've got me checking out songs----

138. Aw Elrond,
That will never happen.

I fell asleep on the couch right after dinner.
The last thing I remember was listening to the
news and " shutting my eyes for a few moments".

Yeah- like for three hours!
After that, I never quite woke up.
I listened to this old body and went to bed.

But today's a new day and I actually got seven hours of
sleep! My organic alarm clocks ( my two male kitties) did
not wake me up until 7 AM. Hallelujah!

They were pretty pathetic and looked very foolish. They certainly weren't helping their cause much at all! Apparently, they were yelling "Nazis!" at women who were coming to pick their kids up from religious classes! However, on the inside, the presentation was great! Lots of pro-choice clergy on the panel making some excellent points.

165. Hi Texanwitch,
Edited on Sat Feb-10-07 10:19 PM by Kajsa
It sounds like a great beach house.

I was fortunate enough to live right next to the beach in Santa Monica, CA,
back in the early 50's. That's when people with moderate incomes could
live next to the ocean. I gravitate back to the ocean every chance I get.

My son is going out with his friend to see a movie, my SO will be leaving soon
for a few hours so I'm on my own later on tonight.
It's cloudy with a 80% chance of rain after 11 PM. I really hope it rains!
We've only had an inch of rain this season and we're in a drought.

I'm going to have a fire ( in the fireplace) and watch a movie later on.
It's kinda nice to watch whatever I want. I really like good animation flicks, too.

Believe it or not, last Tuesday I watched the DVD " Open Season".
Yeah, I know it's for youngsters but I love that stuff. I'm a real animal nut
and down on hunting for sport so that movie was perfect for me.

I laughed so hard- it was great. Now I want to buy it so my Mom ( who's 87)
can watch it. She would love it.

Tomorrow my son and I plan on going to the Travel and
Adventure Show at the Long Beach Convention Center.

I love to travel, but my finances need some help before I can take off again.

So, it's going to be a nice peaceful night with the kitties.

I love the sound of the waves, the salt air.

The only good thing about Houston is that the Galveston is only 50 miles away.

Sounds like you will be having a nice, quiet night.

The bonfire is not until midnight, why I don't know.

Some of people stay up all night to watch the dawn, I don't think I will last that long.

Enjoy the DVD, I am watching the fireplace.

I love winter at the beach.

184. He-he, Hi Elrond!
I'm sorry I missed ya!:7

I'm heading out for the Travel and Adventure Show at
the Long Beach Convention Center.

Losers go to travel shows even though they don't have
the finances to travel right now.

But I live vicariously and hope to win the Super Lotto!!

Yeah, yeah, I know- one in a million chances.

I'll check back later.

:hi:

It sounds like you had a great weekend. ;-)

Two of my favorites- the beach and our animal buddies!

I had a nice time at the travel show.
The problem is, now I want to circle the globe!

There is a big world out there, and we're just a part of it.

Someone should remind Georgie W. of that.

186. Hey Elrond, checking in to say hello to all LL's!!!
I spent the day at our little lake cottage with my brother, who is up from Georgia. The ice is about 8" thick so we walked out onto the lake to check out the ice fisher people. It is really cool to walk on water -- all be it frozen -- it made me feel very empowered. Until I got cold and then I said fuck this walking on water thing --I just want to be inside where it's warm.

How are you doing? ;-)

Things are going good.
I need to get some estimates on fender damage
to my old Volvo.
One of my neighbors accidentally backed into it pulling
out of her driveway late Friday night. My car was parked on the street.
She was very nice and came over immediately, apologized
and said she would pay for it.

That and getting my son's taxes done today are the top two
items on my to do list. I'm off work today because of Lincoln's birthday.

It's so good to see you here!

192. That's a good point, Grace.
I know the administrators meant well,
but damn!-

these valentines to your friends bring back
very painful memories.

Remember back in the day when they didn't
have the unwritten rule that everyone
in class was to get a valentine? I do!
Some kids, including myself, didn't get very many
while others were inundated with them.

Nice way to mess up a kid's mind!

I even read somewhere where a teacher had a
" let's see who got the most" contest!! God Almighty!
What a friggin insensitive idiot!! Those are the teachers that give
the rest of us a bad name.

225. Not a teacher yet, but I work as a teaching assistant and I am a Sunday School teacher...
and I make it my BUSINESS to make sure every kid feels valued and appreciated.
I know I have my favorites (every teacher does, even though you're not supposed to)...but I don't let that get in the way of me making EVERY kid I work with feel like a decent human being, when they're not being a nudge, of course :)
I mean, honestly, self-esteem is so important, and for so many years, teachers just didn't give a shit about it. Now sometimes people go overboard, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't deserve consideration!
I love the types that say 'Oh, MY teachers didn't give a RAT'S ASS about self-esteem, and I turned out fine.' This coming from a twisted misanthrope.
:)

I don't sit in front of my laptop and post 500 posts a day. Even when I WASN'T lurking, I didn't have the patience or stamina to post that often.

I have no hearts, either. See that? I couldn't be more loserish than I am right now. An empty sack. Like I had in 4th and 5th grade. An also ran. An honorable mention. Stray hay on the stack. Where's my vodka and cigarettes? I plan on a slow death.

250. No it isn't warm, it about 67 now, colder over the weekend.
Summer is no time for the beach, it is hot and humid.

If I go to beach in the summer I stay in the AC until the afternoon.

251. Well I don't really understand this thread but I like most others here I can be both!
A loser and a winner too! Sometimes I'm down but most of the time too busy to think about it since we all have bills to pay and Mil retirement is not very much to live off anyway! Lost twice two divorces in my 50 years but won both times with the children staying with me after they decided to split in the most recent case I know who the loser is for sure she may have stolen everything I ever earned or saved, long story, but I have the most precious things that came out of our marriage. And I consider myself a winner there.

Manzanar Japanese American internment camp Yes it did happen here in the USA!

253. Welcome Sce56,
Yes, we are all winners here at the Lounge Losers Club.

You are very fortunate to have such great kids.
They are very precious, indeed.

Thanks for sharing your story and great picture.

I've driven by Manzanar several times, but I've never been
inside. Yes, it sure did happen in the US, and I hope we
never forget that!

Again, welcome!
