Am totally freaked--Called 911--2:15 AM some total stranger guy is ringing my doorbell.
Was asleep, and the door bell rings. I grab my phone and go look out the peephole. There's this guy in a hoodie and shorts, bald/shaved head, wire rim glasses, grizzly stubble, about 5'7" tall. I have no idea who this person is, never saw him before. Then he rings the door again. I peeked out the dining room window blind slats to the side of the front entry and asked, "Who are you?" He turned sideways so I couldn't see his face, and started mumbling like he had something important to say. I called the cops. The guy kept standing out there for another five or so minutes while I was on the phone to 911. Then he walked off, and drove off in a car or something...didn't see what it was as I was back looking out through the peephole. Cop did a sweep of the neighborhood, then came over to my 0place. Talked with him about it all, and he was going back out to drive around again.

OK..I am totally freaked. :scared:

And now am sure I won't be sleeping 'til the sun comes up.

2. Thanks...me, too, Nickster
THere have been home invasions around here lately. I live in a good neighborhood, but this is a small town of about 50,000, and there have been break-ins in out nighborhood over the last month or so.

I have a dog. She was inside with me, and because of the doorbell ringing, she was barking at the door...and the guy still just stood out there. I know the neighbors in out cul-de-sac, and I have never seen this guy.

3. Well, I know it's not comforting so much, but if he wanted to break in, he
probably wouldn't have rung the doorbell. He probably had some sort of mental issue and may not have known necessarily where he was.

5. Maybe...
But there have been doorbell ringers in some of the home invasions around here. My son, who lives in same neighborhood about 2 blocks away from me, had someone trying to actually open his front door at about 10:30 one night. It was locked and the front porch light was on, but someone still was just trying to walk right in.

Anyway...thank you so much for being online and giving me a reponse :pals: It helps to know someone out there in the middle of night is listening while I'm home alone here. I keep looking outside...even though I doubt he'll be back...

I did call my son and woke him up to tell him about it. After all, that's what sons are there for ;)

13. Of course that's what sons are for!:-) I've got my own list of late night phone calls
from my mom, some more "eventful" than others. I'm sure he's going to move on to some other place, you've seen him and he's lost his element of surprise. Just make sure you keep your eyes open and doors and windows shut. So sorry you have to deal with this, but sadly that's the messed up world that we live in. Try to get some rest if you can.

6. Yikes!
Sure hope not, Robeson re: checking my place out.

Am sure it was stupid of me to peek through the slats and ask, "Who are you?", but I do have a deep voice, and he couldn't see who he was talking to, and definitely was not letting me see his face when he started mumbling whatever he was saying.

Thanks for responding here. Just typing and reading, and knowing others are awake out there really helps :pals:

7. You've probably broke his element of surprise....
...so I'm sure he's gone. But I know it's still got to be nerve-racking.

12. Thanks, latebloomer
Am sure he won't be back either, but am not going to sleep.... :::sigh:::

Am awake...too early for me to add caffeine to my system, so am having a glass of wine. ;) Am sure once it gets light about 6 AM, will get some sleep. When the doorbell rang had just hauled my butt to bed after falling asleep on the couch around 10:30 watching Brothers & Sisters...at least I did get about 4 hours sleep.

Thanks for posting here..am still up and edgy :pals:

14. Didn't you just have problems with your neighbor in the middle of
the night? Over your dog barking? Is it possible that maybe your neighbor was trying to rattle you or something? Sounds scary, regardless.

16. Yes..the one and only time my dog was outside in middle of night
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 08:50 AM by Whoa_Nelly
But this was not my neighbor that rang my doorbell this early, early AM. It was some guy I had never seen before. And my dog was inside, as is the usual, and after the other night, forever from now, mode.

And, after this guy stood outside for about 10 minutes like he expected me to open the door, he got into a car that I had not seen when looking out the peephole and drove off.

So, no, am sure this had nothing to do with my neighbor or anyone else in my general neighborhood. This guy was grizzly looking...and no, my dog had not been outside since 9PM the evening before, so am sure this had nothing to do with her at all. The whole thing was very strange...

21. That was my first thought exactly.
I was just about to post it but wanted to read throught the thread first. I wonder if it was something the neighbor set up.

22. Who knows?
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 09:27 AM by Whoa_Nelly
However the fact that whoever this guy was had parked a car either in my driveway or off to the side of the front of my house...some space I couldn't see from the peephole... he came here in a car.

And he didn't look drunk. He kept standing there like he fully expected someone to open the door to him...all very weird.

Thanks for checking in, AirmensMom!

24. That's what makes me think it.
Your neighbor's friends don't necessarily all live in the neighborhood. Sure does smell like a set-up to me.

You're very welcome, WN.

15. I'm so sorry that happened!

There is nothing worse than being woken up by some freak occurrence. At least the police have been to your house and have driven the neighborhood. And be thankful you were awake enough to think clearly enough to grab your phone. I'm glad you are safe and that there was no real harm done. Try to relax and get some sleep. Try falling asleep on the couch again with your phone next to you.

Have the phone nearby, at hand...and I don't think this guy will be back. Meanwhile, am having a glass of wine, and plan on going to bed about 6AM here when it gets light out.

Thanks, VR :pals:

20. I had a really drunk woman do that to me one night at about 2:00 am.
She was looking for some other place, drink in hand, driving a giant SUV.

Morons everywhere.

23. Oh, WN, that's scary!
:scared: I'm glad you had the presence of mind to call 911!

My first thought was that your nutty neighbor decided to send one of her scary-looking friends over to teach you a lesson. Nothing like MAKING the dog bark, eh?

Wish I could've been here for you.

25. Luckily, I was awake when the doorbell rang
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 09:26 AM by Whoa_Nelly
THat's why I grabbed the phone. I had fallen asleep on the couch during Brothers & Sisters, and woke up about 2...went and brushed teeth, had just gotten into bed, and Ding Dong!

I don't think it had anything to do with the neighbor. I think it was someone trying to get into my home, and it didn't work.

Damn...this is going to make me nervouse at night for some time to come. :(
