At this hotel you can't book a room at the front desk.
The Marriott Grand Hotel in Fairhope, Alabama:

UNBELIEVABLE!

Miz t. went there with a friend she's helping with her daughter's wedding.
Both the wedding and reception will be at the Grand Hotel.

It's about 30 minutes from our home, so Miz t. wanted to book a room for that night.
OK, we can splurge once in a GREAT while.
The reception will be very 'wet' and I'd just as soon not have to drive home after.

Miz t. went to the front desk to make our reservation.
"I'm sorry. We can't take reservations HERE. You'll have to do that online or by phone."

Hunh?

????????????????????

I have NEVER heard of any policy like this.

4. Yeah. What if you don't have a computer?
I mean, a lot of people still don't.
And WON'T!

6. That used to be a joke.
In the earlier days of credit cards.
"Do you accept cash?"
And we laughed.
jeez

9. I've seen that as well.
It used to be back in the day, that you could get a room with a cash deposit of $300 or so. I guess they've had more damage than that so they've changed their policy.

It's unfortunate. Some hotels won't take debit cards either.

3. I've heard of it.
I used to work in hotels. I noticed that once they went to using 800 numbers and internet bookings they really began to experience double and triple bookings. If I can't speak to someone at the desk when it comes to making a reservation I won't stay at their hotel. A desk person can usually give you a better deal and will work harder to find the perfect fit by way of a room for a guest.

It's also becoming more common to accept credit cards only as payment. The hotel puts a hold on your credit card up to 24 hours before you check in and sometimes won't charge it until 48 hours after you check out-plenty of time to find something extra to charge you for.

7. I've walked in off the street to Holiday Inns and others...
"Do you have a room with a king-size bed and ashtrays?"
They ALWAYS ask "Do you want smoking?"
No, I don't smoke, I just like to have ashtrays around.
duh

Anyway..."Yes sir".
I can't wait to talk to these people at the Grand.

5. They probably physically can , but just won't.
Lazy dipshit.

At the very least, the person should have picked up the phone, dialed the 800 number, and assisted you in making your reservation.

I used to work in hotels, still do training sometimes, and write a regular column about them. Employees like that drive me batshit.

Get a taxi and go down the road to the Hilton Garden Inn in Daphne. I've been there -- they're nice there.

11. I would have pulled out my cell phone....
and made the reservation while standing at the front desk. Just for the irony of it.

12. Why use your cellphone minutes? I'd ask to use THEIR phone
"What number do I dial for reservations? OK, may I please borrow your phone?"
