Poll question: When you see a bumper sticker that reads
"We are spending our childrens' inheritance", what do you think?

1. I think, "Good for you!"
I am saddened when so many parents refuse to enjoy themselves for the sake of their children's inheritance. My parents missed a lot of living becuase they were always worried about what they were going to leave us. So it ended up they left us well, but I really wish they had enjoyed themselves more. Mom fretted about every trip she took, and every time she bought nice clothing, "Oh, I feel like I'm robbing you kids."

I hate that - people earned their money, they should enjoy it, and live and take davantage of the beauty of this earth while they are alive. I'm not real big on worrying about the next generation (in terms of one's own children; I DO worry about what we as a country are doing to our children).

So those stickers, generally speaking, don't bother me at all. I think it's cool, and I don't think it's at all irrepsonsible when people enjoy the fruits of their labor. So long as they raised their children and got them out of the house as working, socially adjusted adults, they don't owe their children anything else, and their children shouldn't piss and moan if they don't get anything.

2. Agreed
Parents should be under no obligation to leave a significant amount of money for their kids.

3. A-fucking-men
I have told my parents repeatedly that I don't want them to leave me a dime. They earned it. They sacrificed for me for years when I was younger. And now that I can take care of myself they should spend that money and have fun and live life however they want.

4. Yep
Statistics show very few people receive much of an inheritance anyway. Between the increase in health care costs, and increased longevity, if you are counting on getting an inheritance you are probably counting chickens that will never hatch.

5. I agree!
Well, the stickers sure as hell bother me, it's a sheer reminder of what repukes are doing with the budget, deficit, and debt...

On the other hand, we also have to wonder why Derek Humphrey isn't as rich as he should be.

6. Parents..
..mine worked hard all their life. The provided well for my sister and I. We're both doing fine. We took our inheritance and bought lunch and a lottery ticket. The ticket didn't pan out. I can't remember the lunch, but I know we were there for them as they were there for us.
