Brothers Get 10 Years in Puppy Torture Case
ATLANTA, GA -- Two brothers accused of torturing and killing a puppy by baking it in an oven were sentenced ot 10 years in prison Friday.

Joshua and Justin Moulder entered a packed courtroom Friday morning. Animal rights activists and supporters for the brothers filled the seats.

Both brothers pleaded guilty to a 10 count felony indictment, which included charges of aggravated animal cruelty.

<snip>

Prosecutors also brought in 5,000 letters sent to the District Attorney's office and 17,000 signatures on a petition in support of prison time for the brothers.

Here's the backstory, if you missed it (warning, not for the squeamish):

I'm posting this because this case has come up here in The Lounge a couple times.

Odd thing about prison, I hear. If your crime(s) involved kids, the elderly or animals, your stay seems to last much longer.

1. Good. People treat animals the way they'd LIKE to treat people.
Those two have no place in a civilized society.

4. Flvegan, do you know how old those sociopaths are?
I'm just curious, as I have a teenaged son who spends all his free time rolling around on the floor with our puppy.

I just can't imagine why someone would do something so cruel to a helpless little creature.

equally as evil?

9. Tracking down the parents has been difficult.
From what I've read, there hasn't been much parental influence.

They both have criminal records that are unflattering.

11. thanks for posting this
I somehow missed it. It is great news. I'm sad about the little puppy, and the minds of the two criminals that are so ruined so young, but thank god they took this little life seriously.

10. Society is more protective of those that are in more need, generally.
not always but generally. These young men need some serious help, hopefully they will get it and not just be shuffled into the system.

12. "supporters for the brothers filled the seats"
What. The. Fuck?

People who bake puppies alive have supporters?

I'd like to start a fund to get every one of them their very own free vasectomy or tubal ligation, because whoever had even a small part in making those sick creatures who they are today should not be allowed to swim in the gene pool. :grr:

13. They sure do.
I've been in court so many times for stuff like this (lending professional opinion, NOT cheerleading for the perps) that I've seen folks state forehead-slapping idiocy time and again.

18. Nah, it's pretty funny, actually.
When Bert Wahl's case came up a couple years ago, this big, prominant local asshole got up and talked about his contributions to the community and how successful he was. He stated how he personally knew Wahl and he could NEVER do this, and blah blah blah.

He damn near RAN from the courtroom once the idiots like me got started. It was obvious Wahl was going to go down (and he did) and his "friend" made himself scarce.

Cowards, just like their pals. And THAT, is memorable. Let 'em speak first, and they destroy themselves.

I loved crucifying him.

I initiated the standing ovation in the courtroom. The judge wasn't pleased, but meh.

23. To his credit, he started out on the up and up.
He did a lot of great work for animals in the beginning. That was running a rescue.

Later in his "career" he fell way behind. He stopped caring, it seems. Money was an issue. He knew it, but he tried to get out of the charges. The fact that others stood up for him is just stupid.

24. Thank goodness
The reason we have such a hard time preventing animal cruelty (especially repeat offenders), up to an including dog fighting, is because the consequences often are so minor that they're a joke.

Hope they have fun in the big house!! I'll bet they'll have lots of friends!

25. Florida, I must say, is a good state in this regard.
We have good laws here, and many of our animal control officials are in it to win it.

Now, if only they could get serious about elections...

I hope they bother to learn to regret their actions.
