A mother and son. The son was never seen without a ball in his mouth, he was always wanted to play fetch. The Mother died a couple of months ago.

I noticed that the son didn't have a ball today. I asked my Aunt if they were out of balls or what? She told me, that the son isn't interested in the ball anymore since his Mother passed on.

Isn't that the saddest thing EVER?!?!

1. Aww, that is sad. :-(
I have a doxie-boy, and playing ball is his favorite thing ever (well, except maybe eating).

Give your aunt's doxie some scrootchies from me! :)

3. that is unbelievably sad -- dogs are loyal beyond words.
when my little dog peewee died -- i thought my big dog sport -- wouldn't even pay any attention -- he went to great pains to ignore peewee.

shortly after peewee died -- sport suddenly started laying on the sofa -- which he never did{But not because he wasn't allowed -- he was allowed} -- where peewee laid.

i cried like a little baby.

4. Aawwwww. Poor guy.
That is so incredibly sad.

Sort of related: The thread about the Dixie Chicks got me to thinking back to a time when I listened to country music. When my mom was ill and for quite some time after she died I listened to country music and smoked Marlboros sort of compulsively, which are things she would do that were completely abnormal behavior for me. Maybe dogs do that sort of thing, too. In any case, wish I could give him a hug.

5. How sad. My dog did the same thing.
Our older dog died of an infection of the uterus. She was not exactly friendly to outsiders, but she loved our puppy. She always used to clean him, bath him and pull stickers out of his fur. They spent day and night together.

He did not eat for quite a while after she died, and he wouldn't play with his toys. He kept looking for her. :(

It took a while, but he eventually returned to his old self once he realized she wasn't coming back. We got another dog, and they get along great.

9. Poor puppy. At this point he probably doesn't even remember why he is so sad.

10. I hope there's a chance he'll snap out of it
and start playing ball again.
