World Record Pub-Crawl Attempted In Halifax

Partygoers in Halifax are anxiously awaiting confirmation that the city now holds the record for the world's largest pub crawl.

Organizers estimate more than 3,300 people braved the bitter cold Friday, hopping from bar to bar in order to get the city into the Guinness World Records.

Australia holds the current record at 2,237 people.

Pub crawl organizer, Jonathan DeYoung, is certain they reached their target.

"I'm sure we're going to get this. We've got too much info and there's no worries about making sure we've got this record," DeYoung told CTV Atlantic.

The drinking marathon ran from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., with the partygoers divided into 19 smaller groups all following different schedules.

As a precautionary move the Halifax Regional Police beefed up its presence in the downtown core.

"You've got to watch out because there are a lot of people downtown, but as long as you're smart about it and not doing anything too retarded, you should be fine," one bar hopper told CTV Atlantic.

The night of partying went without any serious incident, police said Saturday.
