2. That's a great camera.
I've read some reviews and they're all very positive. Get yourself a massive memory card, though, because those 10 megapixel image files can be huuuuuge.

7. I got a 2GB memory card
and will probably get another one within the next months. At least before the trip to the Ukraine in August.

I chatted with gmoney yesterday, he has the same camera and likes it too. I would say he is semi-professional and I trust his review.

41. Good thinking!
Although the battery on my newer camera lasts a VERY long time. You might never need the extra one. :D

Yep, get lots of memory sticks. What kind does it take? Just an idea ... it might be a good idea to get several smaller ones as well. I had a 2GB SanDisk SD one that went bad on a trip to CA -- after I had about 120 pics on it. They repaced it, but couldn't save the pics. That made me a little scared about putting them all on a big memory stick.

Well, it's not like I don't like what I bought. But we did stay away from the expensive stores and catalogs that don't list prices. I really didn't think we could stay within that budget, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

Ack! You gotta go already?

who just built a house. They would go shopping locally and find what they want, and then found the same stuff on-line, but much cheaper. They too tried to stay within budget. She did some mighty fine shopping. Got some really unique stuff. Real special subtle touches to the house. I was very impressed.

My vacation? Sorry not TN, although I'm always watching airfares. I heard MissH was visiting you again, but unfortunately that's the time I've planned my trip. (UGH)

Alright, I suppose I'd best do some work. After all, that's why they pay me the big bucks.

:hi: :loveya:

The last straw for me was New Years Eve when I took pics of the fireworks and misspend a full film on it. And when I figured out a way to pay for it (aka using money I saved on a special account) there was no stopping me anymore ... LOL. So the camera is my b-day gift for myself this year.

I just took pics of my office and the reading room. But I can only post them tonight as I don't want to install the download program on my work computer.
My desk looks at least as messy .... LOL

But I can't wait :woohoo:

23. See, it was just meant
to be! And the most perfect birthday present too!

I've got a card reader for my digi at work. I just slip in the memory card, then plug into my computer and slide those pics right over. Works pretty slick, no extra software required, and they're pretty cheap too.

Glad to hear that your office is messy too. I've got stuff all over the floor too. At one time I had to step over piles of papers just to get to my chair. Typically I'm much neater than that, but I'm so busy at work I tell them, "I can either do the work or keep my office clean, but I can't do both. If you don't like it, you choose." No one says anything anymore, although I suspect that the cleaning people only empty my waste basket.

31. It may not look like it
but I do know where everything is.

Hmmmm . . . your camera. You know I do have a birthday coming up. Maybe that coupled with my upcoming trip can convince my inner self to purchase a camera too. See, I've got a print camera too. I go in streaks. At times I take tons of pics, and then, like now, I have a dry spell. But I suspect with a digi my picture taking would expand due to the fact that I'm not paying for prints. An added bonus to owning a digi. Couple that dollar saving factor into the mix, and this convincing stuff is getting a lot easier.

I've gotta be heading out to work soon. Wishing you a grand day, and I'll be looking out for your new pics.

21. That looks like a nice camera as well
I decided on the Canon because I already have a Canon (not digital) and I can use my zooms with the new camera. That "limited" me on looking at Canons.

I decided on the newest model because it was not that much more expensive then the one model before it and I already like the big scrren on the back.

With such a model it is easy to take beautiful pictures :D

The only thing I really had to have for my camera was the lens attachment options. I really want a telephoto lens and my husband wants a nice macro lens. He wants to be able to take nice photos of insects in the field. He's nerdy. I :loveya: it!

or other departments. I believe it is less than a percent in the reading room. The most important editions of Goethe's work and lexica and reference books.

I don't get tempted to read in them though  But I do leaf through books that go over my table. Which are some.

45. I am sure I can take night shots
with the right setting. At least I could with my old Canon, why not with my new one. And I got me a tripod for Christmas, that makes it easier as well.

What do you mean with the "Fish eye" option?

I honestly don't know how often I'd use it. I'd rather just rent one someplace. LOL. The next lens I get will be a wide angle, but that's going to have to wait awhile, I blew the bank over Xmas.

87. Fisheye
Tokina makes a 10-17mm zoom fisheye in Canon and Nikon mount, based on the Pentax optical design. Canon's only EOS-mount fisheye (15mm f/2.8) is for film and full-frame bodies (EOS 5D and 1Ds), you won't get the 180-degree diagonal view on a smaller-sensor (APS-C) camera like the Rebels or 20D/30D or the Nikons. The Tokina will, since it's designed for the smaller sensors.

the depth of focus is amazing. I posted a couple of pics above. Esp. on the pic of my desk you can tell when you zoom in. I have a pic standing on my desk and when you zoom in you can read what it says (of course in German)

The small cameras by Canon are as great. My mom's bf has one and the pics he takes with that camera are just amazing. Have fun with your new toy as well

103. I thought about spending more to get some really high-powered
optical zoom, but figured that 4x wasn't so bad for a point-and-shoot (most p&s cameras have only 3x), and was impressed with image quality that I saw with the additional 4x digital zoom. Your office pictures looked great! I'm jealous...I spend most of my workday in a laboratory which looks like a dungeon... :( The Canon I selected seemed to stand out amongst the lower-end digitals I was looking at, and my choice was confirmed based on what I read on Ken Rockwell's site - it's a great site for anyone who's into photography. www.kenrockwell.com

128. Hello chknltl ~
I suppose an explanation is in-order ... last fall I took my parrot and moved to South Florida. I was hoping to regain my health and return to work. Sadly :( that isn't to be. My body doesn't agree. However the huge amount of sunshine has alleviated my Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) so the move was a good idea = I do need to relocate to the South. This summer I'll be back in upstate New York packing-up the treasures I can't leave behind and selling or giving away the rest. I have a house to sell and pets to relocate. My Golden Retriever is almost 11 and I hope she'll make the move with us this summer. Several years ago Mr. Alpern and I decided that we weren't a great married couple but we could be great friends (with separate bedrooms). So ... now I'm looking for a town where we'll both be happy. I feel that I need to find a location Mr. A can transfer to, he has a good employment record with his current company (and 6 weeks of vacation time each year). We may need to exchange living locations if I find a job for him before the house is sold. I would hate to spend the winter in NY so I hope that someone falls in-love with all of the improvements we've done over the past 11 years and I can kiss all of my beautiful landscaping goodbye before the snow falls for the Winter of 2007/2008.

I've been missing for weeks at a time since last summer when Sugar Smack and I spent 3 weeks in the Florida Keys so I was truly surprised by this ~ http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=6142878 . I plan to send the DUers on auntAgonist's thread a PM thanking them. I miss all of you. Sometimes I go for weeks without talking to anyone except for an occasional call from home. I'm so lonely down here. I need to find a friendlier part of Florida ... so I'm heading to the west coast for a few days next week.

Thank you for asking: "Sorry I am not trying to be nosy or nothing...just a bit concerned, besides, you were always one of the nicer people here in the DU lounge, right up there with CP... ~ and for your complement.

123. Well look at you...a new camera...I am envious
And Germany is in your new viewfinder...I am doubly envious.
My first ever 35mm was a Canon. They make a fine product and they are well known for their ruggedness too! (Well they used to be back when I was into photography, they were the Camera system of choice for most pro sports photographers back then)

If I get my way I'll soon be competing with you in the bridges contest! I almost got a submission in this very evening but I ran into technical difficulties complicated by an idiot in front of my computer monitor...(that'd be me...the idiot). I am sure that we'll get the matter all sorted out tomorrow...(then look out...there's some fine bridge photos entered in this competition, yours included, but I got a few of my own...) :eyes:

btw: Tea status: I sent a request to the tea company up in Seattle but they have yet to respond to my e-mail. I did not see in their shipping profile a means for shipping out of country. If needs-be I'll have them ship it here then it's off to the country of Lebkuchen for a young ladies appraisal. I'll give that tea company another day or two to return my e-mail before I try again.

It is 3:45 am here...waaaay past my bedtime... I'll not be seeing your reply here till tomorrow because I am offline after I post this. Have a great day today MissHoneychurch and have fun with that new camera.

124. I saw your posts in the Photography group
welcome there. The contests are fun and it is rather easy to beat me in those contests ... LOL

Here is another attempt to use the new camera

Thanks for trying to get the tea. And you know you get some Lebkuchen or something else in return.

:loveya:

126. You heart monger you....
I ended up staying awake a bit longer. I noticed that someone who has been missing in action has posted in your thread and I wanted to make sure to say hey to her as well.

By the way that's a mighty large pile of hearts you have managed to collect for yourself there kid... but impressive as that pile is, I think California Peggy has you beat with 19. I suspect that she may be handin' out cash to folks to buy them for her. We Americans are notorious ballot box stuffers...it is likely due to something in our water... if ever you should pay this country a visit be sure and not drink the water...or the beer.

Ok a quick check to see if Joany replied then I am off to bed this time for real

127. Joani was online yesterday
She is on dial-up. She isn't much online at the moment as she moved to FL and hasn't got her stuff all together. That is why she misses certain animals and stuff. She'll pop up again.

I know for sure I haven't handed out money ... LOL. But I am honestly amazed at all the hearts. I never expected as many.

You know I've been to your country and sure drank your water. I decline the beer, I rather drink the wine ... :P But it hasn't infected me yet.
