What should I do with column-related hate mail?

I'm too obscure to get much, but every once in a while some comes my way. I got one today that could have been penned by Bob Boudelang himself. Normally I delete it without responding, since I don't have a lot of time for that. But perhaps I'm not using this valuable resource wisely! Should I:

It can decorate an office quite nicely.

Turn it right back on them by making an example of them.

Usually it's just one or two a week. If the volume ever gets Boudelangalicious, maybe someday.

There is a slightly higher number of people out there who don't send me hate mail but prefer to trash me on their own blogs, which is the more civilized way to do it, I suppose.

I just appreciate your writing style so much I would LOVE to see your responses...anyway...keep doing what you are doing :D

...but, as I was saying below, I have intentionally made it difficult for people to find my email address, which probably accounts for the lower volume. In order to figure out how to email me they'd have to concentrate on a single thing for, like, 90 seconds.

I don't get to read nearly enough Bob Boudelang.

if you have time, because when you let things like that go, it just emboldens people to continue on in their ignorance and hate.

But an even better idea would be to have it as a subsection of the Hate Mailbag feature. They could give links to the different articles and show the hate mail it generated... could be entertaining. :shrug:

Post under hate mail. But you MUST include the return address!

But there were two, unless one was just spam:

#1: Header: "you are an idiot"
Text: "why do you do that?"

Nonsensical enough that it could be spam, especially as it came with a suspicious attachment. #2 was much better...let me see if I can recreate it from memory:

Header: (no subject)
Text: Mr Adder , what the hell are you talking about. can you name one country we have invaded and conquered. Everyone knows there are not any. Ironically we have just stopped a madman from doing exactly that so again, what the hell are you talking about?

I think my brain may have made the syntax more coherent, but that's bascially the gist, and the ring-composition with the "what the hell are you talking about" is accurate...

Bob's morning epistle from the imbeciles said "SORELOSIN' TRAITOR CUNT" and nothing more.

Of course, that was his regular correspondent Az Joe, who has serious gender issues....and also flies into a rage when he sees his hate mail posted here.

(Incidentally, there isn't a damn thing he can do about it, and it makes everybody on DU laugh about what an pathetic closet case he is.)

Maybe we could combine them into a regular hate mail thread.

Fortunately my email isn't at the bottom of the column, so people who want to harass me have to work a little harder. Probably a lot of htem give up when they find out there's no "one-click hatemailing" option.

I love how specific these wingers are. "Why do you do that?" What do you mean, this? I must have gotten it from my mother's side. Why do you do that?

It's pretty funny. I wonder if the assumption of masculinity affects the tone of the hate mail. Would they be more polite if they knew they were hate-mailing a lady? But then again, I'm not really a lady, either...

you expect a freeper to have heard of a Minoan snake godddess? Hell, most of them think "Crete" is what their knees do when they get up in the morning and Minos is a deli downtown. Maybe if you made it the Purty Pink Adder, or the Chartrus (sp?) Adder, or the Flowered Adder??

In invariably end up saying, "OMG!" when I see the complete lack of literacy and logic in these hate mails.

Personally I find them very entertaining.

That way they can pretend they don't get any.

Morford does regularly in his email "Morning Fix"... Here are two samples:

The hysterical rantings of you, and other, Bush-bashers demonstrates more every day how dangerous it would be to let Democrats ever again have a majority in congress, or access to the White House. Upon reading your latest article, I question your sanity. The sentiments you've expressed sound very much like one of the paranoid homeless that San Franciscan's encounter daily. It's too bad the editor isn't aware of how demented you sound. The next round of craziness will probably castigate Bush as being possessed by the devil. Or have you already done that? I am not being sarcastic when I write this. You rant and rave exactly like someone with severe emotional problems. I respect your dislike of Bush - you have that right. But your ravings should be of concern to you and anyone you are in contact with that is mentally healthy.
Please see someone who can help you move toward sanity.

I enjoy reading the assholery of conservatives.

Hate mail of any sort is always good for a laugh. In Plaid Adder's case, it means that she's doing something right!

My web site generates hate mail every now and then, and I have a page dedicated to posting the hate mail. Of course I ridicule the writer of the mail because, let's face it, we liberals hate everyone.

OK, from now on, hate mail goes straight to the Lounge. Yee ha.
