I was originally thinking of a chocolate lab so I could name him Brownie. And then when we played fetch I could praise him by saying, "you're doing a heckuva job Brownie!"

3. Cute! One suggestion though....
To be 100% accurate, you wouldn't tell him "you're doing a heckuva job Brownie" unless he keeps dropping the ball when playing fetch. I do believe this phrase can't be used unless you're praising incompetence.

5. Don't hesitate!
You could still call him Brownie (after all, his namesake was not chocolate colored either) but how about something sweeter? or at least more innocently impish?

25. Great name
I love giving uncommon human names to animals.
How did you come up with the name Ernie? Was it something you thought of after meeting him? If so, I strongly recommend going with it. Something about him and the name must have clicked for you. I know I didn't think of my cat's name, Oliver, until after I met him. Somehow Oliver the orange cat sounded right to me.

10. Well, if he is still there after work I doubt there will be much thinking involved...
when my wife sees him. She wanted to pay $1500 for the one at the pet store

20. DO NOT buy a "pet store puppy". Ever.
They come from puppy mills, their mothers are treated like crap and they are forced to live in unsanitary conditions. If you do buy from the pet store you are contributing to the deaths of millions of perfectly good dogs every year at the animal shelter.
I would NEVER buy a dog. Never from a breeder or a pet store. Rescued dogs seem to know you saved them. You would NEVER be able to "Buy" a dog like this at a pet store..............

27. I am fairly creative when it comes to naming animals......

Here he is again (Moe) with his brothers Larry & Curley.
(ok, naming them after the three stooges wasn't at all creative) But I did name their two cat buddies Chairman Meow and Flea Taxi.

28. Nice!
I had a cat named Peanut; we used to call him Pea. When he died we named his successor Tupea. Sort of like one of my favorite trees (Tupelo), but mainly 2-Pea.

8. Brownie would still work
as opposed to being "brownie" for color, he could be "brownie" as in cute pixie/fairy type critter

and what's to thinking about it?

12. Smarter than half the people I know and a lot more happy.
Don't leave this Lab, you will regret it. Can you call and ask the seller to hold him until tonight? We care for a Yellow Lab very frequently and she never ceases to amaze me with her good disposition and high degree of intelligence. This dog will give to you countless hours of joy. P.S. There are Butterscotch brownies too!

Gotta take the train to the car and then drive back in the opposite direction to the shelter. We should get to the shelter around 6:30 if we don't hit too much traffic.

By the time we got to the shelter the puppy we were looking for had already been adopted :(

There were many other deserving pups, but we didn't take one last night. We will be heading back to the shelter tomorrow for another look.
