My cat scared the HELL out of me and made me cry last night
Got home from school around 9:30 and was on the phone when I came through the door, so I didn't pay a lot of attention or really even look for Molly. I assumed she was in my daughter's room, as she spends a lot of time in there at night. So my daughter comes to me around 11 p.m. and asks if I have the cat in my room and, of course, I say nope, I thought she was with you. We start looking for her, calling her name and looking in her usual hiding places and nada... no Molly to be found anywere

Now this is a strictly indoor cat but, every now and then, she'll try to sneak past us and run outside. She never stays out there long, as she's not used to being out there and, especially with the cold weather right now, she's never too keen on being out there long. Of course, now I'm really freaking out because I'm thinking about the fact that I was so distracted when I came in and what if she ran by me and I didn't see her and, OH SHIT, she's going to freeze to death. :scared:

Long story short, I had to go pick up my fiance at work at 11:45 and I'm in tears and so is my daughter. She took off with a flashlight to look around the neighborhood for her and I'm thinking all sorts of horrible things... mostly involving her freezing to death or being eaten by a dog.

About ten minutes after I left, my daughter calls me crying and hysterical.... which I take as a bad thing. BUT, she's crying because she came home and there was Molly... standing in the middle of the living room, warm and dry and a bit confused as to why my daughter is so damn happy to see her. I still have NO clue where this cat was hiding the whole time we went insane looking for her but, fuck it, she's here and alive and that's all that matters.... damn rotten evil cat :D

The two faces of Molly, the evil kitty:

1. All cats know to turn invisible when you are looking for them because you're worried. n/t

3. Isn't that the truth?

They are nowhere to be found,
even when all the "secret" hiding places
are checked.

After tears, running around and countless
"worst case scenarios" they show up!!

And in true kitty fashion, with a
" what's the problem?" look on their faces.

Nuisances, all the them!

I'm glad she's home safe.

8. Evil kitties
She HAD to have heard us calling out her name for an entire hour, but could she be bothered to let us know where she was? Eh, the bad thing is that she knows damn well she can get away with anything. I just love her too much to get very mad at her :loveya:

2. Glad Molly's home safe!
Imhotep did the same thing about 3 weeks ago - jumped the fence sight unseen while outside under adult supervision (4 other cats were also outside, and the s.o. was daydreaming). This was just before dark, so I ended up driving to the street behind us, hoping the 11-year old cat with FIV and no teeth had the good sense not to cross the street in front of the house and head for the neighbor's yard instead (and how am I supposed to find a black cat in the dark???) The s.o. called while I was still in the car to tell me the verdammt cat showed up, fine and dandy and wondering what the fuss was about.

We grounded him for a week.

The insane cat in question:

He says to say hi to Molly. :hi:

9. She's extra arrogant today
It's like she just KNOWS how happy we are that she's still here and her ego got even bigger, if that's even possible.

5. That happened to someone I knew.
It turned out that their cat had been in a drawer all that time, that their little boy accidentally shut. Eventually they heard the cat mewing.

6. Mine scared me too.
I was right on the edge of REM sleep, and then Girlie's fat ass pounced on the bed with a big "MEWIE!" announcement that she had arrived on the bed. I jumped 3 feet. She looked at me like "What's his problem?"

7. My old cat Elwood...
weighed 18+ pounds, and loved to jump on my full bladder around 4:00am then run -- I'd bolt awake, wondering what the hell had just happened and why I had to pee so bad! :D

12. Poor thing! Mom guilt SUCKS!
The part that got me was when you thought it was your fault for being distracted when you walked through the door. :(

16. Yeah, that was the worst feeling of all
If she'd truly been outside and something bad happened, I'd have felt guilty forever for not paying better attention. And the worst thing with Molly is that I'm hyper-attached to this cat. My son found her in a dumpster, among a litter of kittens who'd been dumped there. She couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 weeks old when he found her. He heard a noise and looked and there she was, the lone survivor. Of course, he knows me all too well and called me, told me the story and that he was bringing her over.

I protested a bit, as I'd sworn after my last cat died that I wasn't going to have anymore, but he knew I'd never be able to resist and just hung up on me and brought her over. I really didn't think she'd make it, but with some TLC and some handfeeding, she turned into the monster she is today :D
