Nicole Richie charged with DUI
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 04:43 PM by rsmith6621

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Nicole Richie was charged Friday with misdemeanor driving under the influence. In addition to the single count, the case contains an allegation that Richie had a prior misdemeanor DUI conviction in June 2003, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said.

The California vehicle code specifies that if convicted of DUI twice within 10 years, a person can be sentenced to between 90 days and a year in jail, fined between $390 and $1,000, and have driving privileges suspended.

The complaint alleges Richie was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and an unspecified drug when she was arrested Dec. 11, said prosecution spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

Not guilty or guilty -- some penalty but not like a conviction.

9. I'm a traffic lawyer. If you could see the majority of cases that

are downgraded, you'd be afraid to get behind the wheel of the car. While I appreciate that there are anal cops who help to subsidize the tax base of any given town with their quota of tickets, there MUST be a fair amount of defendants who actually did what they were alleged to have done. Traffic court is not primarily about safe streets; it's about revenue.

17. Highly doubtful...
Here in Indiana, we had a State Rep's son mow down a man and left him for dead on the side of the road. He'd been drinking at the local Elk's club for 8 hours and drove home...while in route, he hit Mr. Jackman, drove into a Marsh parking lot to see what he'd done, then left and went home to bed. Daddy and Mommy didn't come forward for 3 days, moved the car into a garage (they claim to save evidence from the elements). Anyway, the son is getting out next Tuesday after serving a little over 1 year for MURDER. While incarcerated, we the taxpayers paid for him finishing his college degree.

Owing Child Support carries stiffer penalty in Rushville Indiana
Driver pleads guilty to leaving fatal accident
Two felony charges were dismissed and a third was downgraded to a misdemeanor as part of a plea agreement for Andrew Saunders, the son of State Rep. Tom Saunders, R-Lewisville.

RUSHVILLE — Two felony charges were dismissed and a third was downgraded to a misdemeanor as part of a plea agreement for Andrew Saunders, the driver who police said was behind the wheel in a February hit-and-run accident that killed a New Castle man.

Saunders, 24, the son of State Rep. Tom Saunders, R-Lewisville, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Rush County Circuit Court to leaving an accident that resulted in death, a Class C felony, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor. He could face up to nine years in prison for those charges.

Originally he also faced felony charges of reckless homicide and causing a death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Authorities say Saunders was driving home Feb. 4 after a night of drinking at the New Castle Elks Lodge when he struck Thomas Michael Jackman, 56, who was walking in front of a Marsh Supermarket. Jackman died the next day in an Indianapolis hospital.

19. Why don't these dangerous people hire a driver!

They just keep on driving their cars and can well afford to have a driver sit and wait for them or call the driver to pick them up!
