I think the Beatles have taken me hostage...
Oh DU, hear my tale! :)

I am very into music. I am 20. I spent most of my teen years listening to rock such as the Dead Kennedys, MxPx, Five Irony Frenzy, 311 and Rush. It was good, I still listen to many of them.

Then came hard punk. But anyways...

4 months ago I was sitting at work and popped in a burned copy of Dark Side of the Moon. I loved it. Love it. I still hate singles from it, but if you listen to the album as a whole it is a masterpiece.

2 months ago my co-worker lets me listen to his copy of the Beatles' Anthology 2. I listend well. Since that day I have borrowed the CD everyday and listened to it. It is amazing.

I went out and bought "Let it Be" tonite... and I am stunned. Really stunned. I bought it mainly on the veracity of "Across the Universe", which is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.

My deal is where is the leap from Dead Kennedys-Rush-Pop-Punk and Punk and Pink Floyd-Velvet Underground to the Beatles.

I dunno what happened! I feel nuts. You have to be in my shoes. I've always been considered a hippy due to my affinity for sandals, cords and earth tones. I guess my dreads play a small part. I've always denied it, I admire hippies, but hate them for slowing thier own momentum.

Anyways, I'm sad tonite. And most Jam bands still suck. That's the only defense I have towards these accusations.

Thanks for reading my pointless rambling, pleas reply :)

5. Im glad I realized...
I am looking forward to tommorow, where I shall strap on my headset and learn all of Ringos parts on this album. It will be nothing after all my years, but I imagine it will satisfy me to play along with the same man who many of my idols played along with.

Peace, Rob. Peace forever.

6. I grew tired of the Beatles when I was 14 or so.
I realize their contributions to music but I just don't care for them aesthetically except for some songs from "the white album". Hey Jude is ok.

7. They are pleasing to me, really....
Mostly Lennons stuff. McCartney has some good shit though too. I'm thinking this might be a phase. Recently I also renewed my love of early Clash, but I think that might be eternal!

19. It was overkill for me that did it.
I understand what you mean though about discovering stuff that has been around for awhile. I realize the Beatles are damn good but they just don't appeal to me anymore. I think it also has to do with me despising Paul McCartney music after he left the Beatles. John Lennon is the one I prefer also.

Dark Side of the Moon I heard way way way way too many times. I like other Pink Floyd stuff much better.

Its all just subjective personal taste dude thats all! :hi:

8. The Beatles...
touched every base. You're right... they are stunning. Parts of the "White Album", for instance, are about as punk as you can get. One great thing about the Beatles is that they don't draw you away from other music you like... in some strange way they enhance your appreciation-- the lighthearted seriousness of their "mission" lends credibility to many musical approaches...

10. Wow man
that's really how I can feel. Maybe I am just weired out by the new spectrum I have. The Beatles are really diverse. I went to the store to finally buy an album... two different stores didn't have the White Album. I chalked it up to being right after Xmas.

Thanks for the post, it really gave me an idea of how I am relating to the music. As a drummer, I've always considered myself musical, and I think that is what the beatles have that alot of the music I have listened to over time lacks. Musicalitiy over Technicality.

9. Sinastyr
You sound like a guy I used to know, all except for the Beatles part.
:^)

As far as your problem goes, just enjoy the experience knowing that at some point you'll grow out of it, but not completely. People who look upon the Beatles as just being '60's mop-tops are often taken by surprise by the complexity when they first start having a Beatles experience.

Just don't be like my brother...20 years later, it's still all he listens to.

Cheers, good buddy!

15. The sad part about that is...
I can't send mail to hotmail, or AOL, or Yahoo. I can't use the Yahoo or AOL messenger.

I think it's a conspiracy to keep me from communicating. It's ruined my ebay life. And I've missed you like crazy!!!

Did you get the letter my brother forwarded to you back in early November? That was the last time I tried!

Much love, my friend!

12. Imagine is still my favorite
or at least one of my favorite top 10 of the Beatles. Personally, the early Beatles I could take it or leave it. But the later years are the best...timeless.

14. In my opinion yes...
I do not much like the straight rock stuff. I love their experimental period...which lasted until they disbanded I guess. I generally prefer the Lennon stuff over the McCartney stuff. I'm not a vet, but I've spent much time on Kazaa as of lately!

I was big into Lionel Richie when I was young. I was setting myself up for commercial abuse :) I wish I had had some Beatles in my youth.

20. Don't worry.
The Beatles are one of the greatest bands ever. If you do not have Abbey Road, get it.
