How quickly should a credit to my debit card show up?
I'm getting a little worried.

About a week ago I bought a new pair of glasses, to the tune of $218. After wearing them for a few days it became obvious there was a defect in one of the lenses. I took them back yesterday and they issued a credit back to my debit card that I had used to pay for the glasses. When I paid for the glasses, the charge showed up immediately, but the credit it not showing up on my account yet. Where's my money? :scared:

1. It can take up to 5 business days
It's not right, is it? They grab your money immediately but you have to wait to get it back.

4. Yeah, ain't that nice?
Buying gas at the pump, they put a hold on your account for 50 to 75 bucks (varies from place to place) before the gas flows and then seize the money immediately. Not so quick on giving it back.

5. Whew!
Thanks. I was getting a little freaked. Now, I'm slightly less freaked, but still on edge. I want my money!

3. Isn't it interesting.
Yes, they get about 3 to 5 days to return your $$$$. But, it is taken in minutes. A good rule of thumb: If you buy something for $100 or more choose the credit option on your debit card. You then have recourse if you experience problems. Plus, it takes about 3 days to be taken from your account.

6. You could have gone insane.. Done something crazy...
Like calling your bank. They might be in the best position to answer questions of policy.

7. I just called my mother (who works for a major bank that rhymes with
Puntington). She advises you to call your bank. The 3-5 days is mostly a thing of the past, with most major banks going to online clearing for both checks and charges. While it could very possibly be the bank holding on to cash (Fed Fund interest and all you know), you are better safe than sorry. Puntington credits right away.
