WTF? Cervical cancer vaccine leads to promiscuity?
This is just FUBAR...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/30/AR2005103000747.html

social conservatives who say immunizing teenagers could encourage sexual activity.

it could send a subtle message condoning sexual activity before marriage.

It's not the phucking pill for christ's sake! And it's not a cure for AIDS or any of the countless other nasties floating around out there. But eliminating a threat that kills 4,000 women a year seems like a good thing.

The American Taliban really wants us back in the tenth century.

1. No surprise there.

You can bet your last dollar, though, that if guys got dick cancer from the HPV, there wouldn't be a peep out of the "social consertives" (translation: fuckwads) if a vaccine was available.

4. That's quite true.
fuckwads is also right. How long before some "doctors" refuse to administer the vaccine because of their "morals"? The countdown has begun, I think.

2. i am so avoiding
any discussion about this.

the anti-vaccine freaks are so winning this ''argument'' in this country.

fine by me -- if that's what women -- and men want -- let cancer reign.

3. I can understand the anti forced vaccine argument
That the gubmint is going to run you down and shoot this into your body without your permission. Some people have bad reactions to vaccinations and I'm not a big fan of the big brother aspect. Those are more or less reasonable arguments.

But the argument that the anti-cancer vaccine is going to turn these girls into raving sex fiends is just a little bizarre.

9. everyone has the right to opt-out of these vaccines
That's not difficult to do. In most states, it has to be mandatory in order for insurance to cover it (those greedy insurance assholes won't cover it unless you make them. Another reason for universal single payer) or for it to be free or low cost for the poor.

6. 90 percent of America condones sex before marriage....but anyway. A tetanus vaccine
never gave me the urge to step on rusty nails.

Somehow I doubt a vaccine that helps prevent something most teenagers have never heard of (or associate only with "genital warts," as my generation did -- and my doc says 80% of my generation has, will have or has had HPV) will change their mind one iota about whether to have sex.

7. Exactly - no one is abstaining for fear of HPV -
not that they shouldn't be, but the fact is young people are unaware or peripherally aware and NOT making life choices based on this particular disease.

8. I have also heard some who oppose mandatory vaccinations
say that their daughters won't need it because they will remain virgins until marriage. This raises two questions:

1. How can anyone guarantee that their child will not be sexually active before marriage.

2. How can they be certain that the man that their daughter marries does not carry HPV.

I can support someone who feels that not enough research and testing has been done and is therefore reluctant to vaccinate their child until it has been proven safe. However, most of the arguments I hear from the social conservative lead me to believe that they value their daughters' virginity more than their future health.

10. Their daughters will probably tell the parents they are virgins
but most likely won't be.

11. The lack of a vaccine hasn't prevented incest in the christian community
so far. And dont you just love all the little "christian" virgins who have sex like porn stars, everything accept vaginal intercourse, so they can tell the right reverend that they are virgins. Let them opt out of the vaccine and then we can listen to them bitch and moan when their daughters get the cancer. Whose fault will it be then?

12. Same reason they don't want to teach about condoms
They've got their heads firmly up their asses in denial. Their whole argument about teaching about condoms is that it condones and encourages sex. I don't have a source to document this (but I'm not in GU right? :-D) but I recall reading that there's a higher risk of pregnancy and STD amongst teens who are taught nothing but abstinence.

This is all we need to teach our children http://www.sexinchrist.com/
