2. no problems with MP3s here
my company bought my copy, so far my apps are all running faster, network connectivity is faster, and i'm REALLY liking how you can control sound volumes per application

meaning, you can have the windows sounds at one level, your music players sounds at another (aside the volume control), your game sounds at another, and whatever else you want.

it's really sweet

6. It's fine! lmao
You really should so it! Especially with a new computer!

It will also update your MS Office SW, if needed to work with Vista.

Not to worry.

Your OS probably needs updates, if it came installed on your new laptop.

I'm almost sure there are Office updates too! (If you have Vista)

13. I just got one a week ago with Vista pre-installed. It's not bad.
Don't. Freak. Out. (I almost did, because it was thrust upon me unexpectedly)

It's like XP with spiffed-up graphics (although I am trying to figure out how to turn off those VERY annoying security prompts).

26. As far as MS Office goes
go to OpenOffice.Org and download the latest version of open office for Windows. This way you don't have to pay for an expensive version of Microsoft office since Open Office is free, it's compatible to MS Office, and has all the same features.

No need for a non-Kosher version of office. :-)

35. *sigh* allow
I've had Macs since 1985, and this latest ad campaign by Apple is THE most brutal thing I've ever seen. And Hodgman is *perfect* as PC.

36. The only thing holding me back is the Mac price
For less than half the price of a Mac pro 17" I can get a killer Win book. That means a lot. If Apple decided to give it's customers more instead of the shareholders, they'd gain huge market share.

And the commercial campaign is awesome.

39. Are you doing anything with digital media (video or audio)?
Saw this posted on another thread, and it's worth the read.

http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.html

Content protection under Vista has some implications musicians and video artists need to know about before making their choice of platform.

And from my personal experience over lo these past 20+ years, every Mac I've bought (and I buy high-end or not at all) has been worth every penny. FWIW.

37. so far, you're right
vista is certainly a resource hog. with all the overhead, some things take a while to get rolling. i need to streamline the system by getting rid of process that just aren't necessary.

but overall, i like it. the movie maker is nice. i bought a canon camcorder, so i will be making higher quality videos in the rainforest and posting them in DU.
