Once and for all: Is the Wizard of Oz suicide in the background real?
I've been hearing rumors about this since I was in Junior High but I have never seen it for myself. Does anyone know if it is real or just another urban legend?

5. I heard this back in 1987 (my freshman year in hs)...
Before they digitally remastered the movie you COULD see a munchkin hanging in the background in the woods. So if you can get your hands on an older version of the movie you should be able to see it.

6. How the heck was this supposed to work?

Do you have any idea how many people are on a shoot like that? The logistics of this is insane:

"Hey, Bill, whatcha doing up there in that tree?"

"Oh, nothing. Just chekcing the view?"

"Oh. Well, why have you got that rope?"

"Just in case I need to tie off something."

"Oh. Why's it in a noose then?"

"In case I need to lasso one of the flying monkeys of course. They are tricky little buggers."

"Oh. Well, make sure you get the step ladder out of the way. We shoot in five."

"No worries, I will kick it out of the way before I am done."

Not, I would suggest, the most plausible of possibilities.

7. You'd think
But then again, you wouldn't think it would be that easy to sneak in frames of Jessica Rabbit's private parts into "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" either. On a big set like the forest in the Wizard of Oz it probably wouldn't be too hard to miss someone hanging dead.

8. I don't know how anyone ever thought it was hanging person

It's a bird, pretty clearly.

Of course, it's a dead bird by now.

11. Nope.
As others have stated, it's a large bird wandering around in the background. None of the surviving cast members recall anyone committing suicide on the lot.
