1. Well, no crime is a victimless crime, BUT if you're the victim of the crime you commited then no.
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 09:18 PM by mainegreen
That's silly.
As a broad general sweeping rule.
I'm sure there are exceptions.

I like that. You can't lift any meaning out of a sentence that sarcastic! Just a logical circle that goes round and round.

:P

4. Hypothetically speaking
Say, if I were to decide to grow and smoke my own marijuana, and have it not affect anyone else around me...

7. If you do it in your own home, don't go out driving, don't hurt anyone. nope.
In AK you (used to be able to) grow 2 marijuana plants for personal use. I liked AK, even though didn't smoke.

18. And the definitve link between weed and lung cancer is what?
Oh right, there's no such thing...Correlation does not equal causation, my friend, in this case. Too many confounding factors.

Bob Marley tends to disagree....

smoke in lungs can't be good...even if it feels good to do it :cough:

I'm not some anti drug fiend... KW asked about victimless crimes...

there's always an effect to every action...

20. Bob Marley got cancer in his toe...
Not quite equivalent to lung cancer, imho...

Yes, *some* things have an effect that is negative. But, the weed gives you lung cancer link, or any cancer for that matter, is far from established.

23. That Is Weird
I'd always heard it was from the 48 tons of dope he smoked

damn

I knew I picked the wrong decade to give up smoking dope!

actually I have lung problems (asthma) and despite the fact that THC has some bronchodilator properties, it seemed to make mine worse so I ended up quitting. If it didn't do that, I might never have quit.

:P

And later spread to his brain, lungs, etc...

I've heard this story a brazillion times, including a bio of him. It's pretty much established fact, afaik. Sorry

8. any act or state of being
that some jurisdiction has outlawed, that doesn't have a victim.

Say, possessing some pot. Being drunk in public. Having consensual sex for money.

10. yes
there is no victim in such a case.

However, endangering the public is rightly a crime, even when no one is hurt.

12. I don't believe
shoplifting is a victimless crime.

In short, to answer the OP seriously, some victimless crimes should be crimes, and some should not.

raise prices in order to make up for the losses.

13. It depends.
Running a stopsign in a busy neighborhood with heavy traffic is a crime. Just because you got lucky and didn't hit anyone doesn't mean you weren't endangering people's safety.

Running a stopsign at a deserted country crossroads, with clear visibility for a mile in all directions, isn't endangering anyone and shouldn't be a crime.
