I am just astounded at this year's FAFSA
First it was just a bear to find out where to fill out the form, sending me off to nowhere land to sign up for something that didn't work for the two colleges I needed to send info to. Then the pins that didn't work from last year. And the signing up for another pin. And then the questions. When were my husband and I married??? WTF? Were we residents of our state before a certain date? My financial data doesn't meet last year's because...umm, this is this year? Can't move forward on my son's application without signing him up for selective service. Also can't access our colleges through the data base because they haven't been entered into the system yet. Because they are liberal colleges??? And you are making this so difficult because you don't want me to apply for financial aid for my two kids? Sorry conspiracy theory overload here.

1. The selective service thing has ALWAYS been there, IIRC.
End of Line.

2. Signing up for selective service has been there
at least since I was a freshman in college and that was when Reagan was president.

I recall having to sign a form saying I was exempt from a draft because I am female.

3. I didn't know about selective service. I signed my daughter up last year
with Fafsa and that wasn't included in her form. I knew my son would have to sign up for selective service, but I didn't know it would be an automatic thing lookin for federal aid.

4. My high school history teacher told us about one of his students
Who was denied financial aid for that reason. He told that story to illustrate the importance for his male to sign for the selective service.

5. I found that filling out the FAFSA worksheet before I filled it
out online made it much easier.

6. Thanks
I guess I felt that I was pretty much of an expert having filled it out last year,....but the new questions are the things that are really bothering me. They weren't there last year.
