Great new band find: Dropkick Murphys from The Departed
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 06:44 PM by hatredisnotavalue
They are that Irish punk band featured in The Departed. I just love them! The song featured in the movie is Shipping Up to Boston.

edit to add the movie title

2. When I was doing a search on them
I saw that I had already downloaded Tessie with Johnny Damon and Bronson Arrayo. What a great, great band.

3. Well, if you like "Tessie" and the song from The Departed,
you should get their "The Warrior's Code" album. It had both those songs on it, and many other good ones ("Sunshine Highway" is a particular standout, IMO). "Blackout" (their previous album) is also a really good one. :D

4. Done
I don't buy a lot of CDs but when I think a band is really good, I do support them by purchasing their work. Are you a Boston boy? I heard they started as a garage band in Boston.

5. No, I do not live, nor never have lived in Boston.

But, I'm an aficionado of both punk rock and Irish/Celtic music, so Dropkick Murphys was a natural attraction. :P

7. I remember seeing the trailer and thinking that song sounded awfully familiar.
It wasn't until months later that I realized it was them when I visited Epitaph Records' website (their record label's parent), and saw an article.

10. Uh....they've been around for well over a decade...
And really popular and well known in the punk scene (presumably you don't follow bands of that ilk). Either way, Great band. Great, great band. Although not all their stuff is exactly the same as that song. Some is more straightforward punk, others more traditional irish tinged stuff.

14. I've been a fan of the Murphys for a couple years now.
In fact I saw Flogging Molly on Friday and the opening band called Street Dogs had their former lead singer in it!
