MySpacers: Ever get friend requests from people you don't know?
I don't mean those that are obvious spam or "friendies," but from people who might be DUers but you don't recognize their name or photos?

I'm never quite sure how to handle this.

1. All the time.
I get them from non-DUers too. I usually just add them and then delete them later if I feel the need. :D

7. Yeah, that'd work
I just wish people would include a message, like "I'm ___________ at DU," if their MySpace name isn't their DU name.

If the profile looks reasonably cool, I add. I can always delete later.

I send a message to them welcoming then and asking who they are here at DU. :)

6. I've been getting a lot of spam lately.
Every time I click on their profile, it says "adult material," so I assume it's a porn spam profile.

12. I once got a friend request from a nephew and didn't recognize
who it was. Luckily my brother came by my place while I was on line and recognized his page. I put in the about me section I don’t approve friend requests that don’t come with a message so situations like that won't happen but nobody seems to read the page first.

15. I changed my settings
To where if someone wants to add me, they have to either know my email address or my last name.

So if anyone who doesn't know those things has to send me a message. I haven't gotten around to changing the settings back to normal yet, but I may just keep 'em that way. Dunno yet.

19. I don't either.
I only did it because of that night a bunch of shit I posted was posted on the site which cannot be named and at the point of time my myspace address was in my profile so I changed a ton of my settings that night.

16. When in doubt; deny
Recently, I had a wave of friend requests. Most were thinly disguised porno spams. They all seem to have in specifics very little about themselves: Female, I don't like kids and something else. A couple looked normal, but I noticed the specifics were the same. So I wondered if they were judas friend requests so I'd approve the rest.

I don't know why they picked on me. Unless my ugly mug was featured on the front page.

18. I get random friend requests all the time...
most are from starving artist musicians who want exposure for their band and I have no problem adding those people. I also get random regular people too, assuming it isn't a spam profile, I'll add them. Some may be DUers and others probably found me through various groups I'm in.

I look at their site and their friends list. If they have someone familiar from here, I add them. If I don't, I just don't add them.

from profiles that are eventually deleted. If I don't know the person I don't do anything and I ignore the request.

30. i get a half-dozen a week, usually...
a lot of them are 'profile no longer exists' by the time i get around to logging in, but occasionally it's a real, live person!

90% of my f-list consists of people i either know in 'real life' (current/former co-workers, friends from WVU, people i went to high school with, etc...)... the rest are people that i've known online for a while.

anyone wanting to add me can look up "thorne1966"

31. I do and I ask them who they are.
A few times I've been surprised to find that people have searched by town and found me because I'm close to them. I guess there's no harm in adding them, until there's harm at which point you can easily "unfriend" them.

So I don't mind getting friends requests from those I don't know.
