I'll be getting my car back tomorrow
I posted early this week about how my engine threw a rod, and I'd decided to let my mechanic drop a new used engine into it instead of running all over Dallas trying to find a decent replacement vehicle.

Believe it or not, they've already gotten the engine and it's installed and has been road tested. When I talked to them at 5:30pm they said they were just waiting for delivery of one tube (they didn't specify WHICH tube). I'll be able to drive it home tomorrow morning.

Sweet! It'll be just like driving a new car (I hope).

My sister thinks I made a mistake by going this route. I hope I didn't.

3. Consider a massive form of recycling
The manufacture of an automobile represents a significant environmental foot print. If you can't afford a new hybrid, this is the way to go ... marrying a used but serviceable engine to a used but serviceable frame.

I bet it works out well for ya.

4. It better- one reason I did this is all the money already invested
-a front-to-back brake rebuild
-all new tires
-a new transmission (actually more than one- a LONG story)
-a new catalytic converter
-a new windshield
-a rebuilt A.C.
-a new battery
-a few other things that don't come to mind at the moment

I really didn't want to throw all that investment away- I use the car for my work, and it's all deductible.

6. Saturday afternoon update
I got my mean machine back this morning as promised, and I took it for an immediate test jaunt around town, doing both freeway and gridlock traffic.

Dayum, it's a sweet motor! Responsive, smooth as silk, and it drives like a new car. I am well pleased (at least until the first thing drops off it). For the moment it looks like I chose wisely.

Time and mileage will tell. The engine has a 12 month/12,000 mile full replacement warranty.

Total cost (including installation): $2027.99
