16 out of 22 kids in a class are in suspension

a friend of mine has a boyfriend who took his first teaching job.

He teaches 4-5 classes a day and in one, there are 16 out of approximately 22 of the kids on suspension. He has only gotten to meet six of the kids this week.

He is the sixth teacher these kids have had this year for this one class.

She feels (and so do i) that they need to have him continue with them so that they realize they are worth teaching. So she is trying to come up with some good incentives to keep them interested and doing their work.

Incentives for kids that age can be difficult. I hope he is able to do it.

I think it is 7th grade...

I thought it was some Xtreme chemistry display or something.

Jr. High chemistry teacher would've done it to us, if he could.

- our teacher was lame. We were bored. Totally bored. So one day a kid circulated a "how much will you pay me to get up and run around the room - ON TOP of the lab stations (jumping from station to station) right in the middle of another boring lecture" note.

Well - MOST of us decided that would be a pretty funny thing to see. So we ante-ed up and off he went. One slight hitch. He tripped over one of the sink faucets, broke it off at the base and water started spewing out all over the room. We had to evacuate the room.

The room flooded completely - thank goodness it was one of the non-carpeted rooms. But it seeped under the walls and the carpet in the hallway got a tad wet, too.

uh-oh.

The next day the Principal came into our chemistry class - dismissed the people who hadn't signed the petition - and lit into the rest of us. Not in a real bad way - but - boy we knew we were in trouble. He COULD have suspended all of us I suppose - but instead we had to pay for the faucet getting fixed, the water vacuum - for the floor and carpet - and a special dryer for the carpet. We took up a collection to pay it off. I think there was some other stuff we had to do - but it's hard to remember that far back. lol....
