How was your fifteen minutes of fame?
The only time I was interviewed on TV I was joined by my dog who started licking himself.

What was your moment in the media spotlight like?

2. Still ongoing.
I've been on TV several times and I'm in two movies. I was just recently interviewed by the local Fox channel about how the extremely cold weather was effecting construction workers. Got about 10 seconds of face time over two clips. Altogether now I'd say I've had approximately 3 minutes and 17 seconds of my 15 minutes so far.

3. I had my picture in Life magazine
back in the heydey of Life magazine. Of course, it was a group shot of a bunch of us who had slept out in the rain, and was pretty unflattering. I looked completely out of it.

5. I've had two.
One was when I was eleven and I wrote to Charles Kuralt when he was doing the "In The News" segments on CBS during the Saturday morning cartoonfest. I asked him how the children on Cyprus were faring during the war between Turkey and Cyprus. I had no idea if I'd even get any response. However, his secretary called me from New York one afternoon when I got home from school and got some more information. They said they'd love to use my question for an "In The News" segment and needed my parents' permission to do it. I called my mom, and she was as excited as I was. They sent us the release form and we completed it and sent it back. It aired during The Partridge Family 2100 AD ( Yeah, that was a totally lameass show, even though it did have the Jetsons there too), and I was a big celebrity in the Atlanta suburb we lived in. :D It was totally cool to hear my name, hometown, and question read by Charles Kuralt and then hear him say, "Well, Julie, we did some checking, and...." BTW, Charles Kuralt also gave the commencement address at my graduation from UNC-CH.

The other one was a local TV station that called and asked me to comment on changes in the Federal student loan programs and student loan consolidation. I had about 10 minutes on WXII during the lame-o morning show, and I actually got a large number of calls afterward to congratulate me and to find out more information. :)

6. It was embarrassing. I was seventeen
and was one of two guests being interviewed on a half-hour local newsmagazine show. I'd recently returned from a year as an exchange student in New Zealand. The other girl at the interview was even shyer than I was which made for awkward t.v. Ouch.

8. Awful!
I wrote an editorial essay for the local paper with (of course) a liberal bent, and everyone in town went NUTS. Lots of people agreed with me, but a lot didn't--and they came LOOKIN' for me. Plus, the local Rush-wannabe, a columnist for the paper, took me apart in one of his columns. Dude didn't even know me. THEN he tried to meet me, lying and saying he "learned something from all this". I turned him down--I knew he was just trying to get more material for another column. Asswipe. (He was so bad one of the editors at the paper called me to say that everyone else at the paper apologized for him and disagreed with his viewpoint! )

Needless to say I haven't sought the spotlight ever since.

15. I was so nervous that I barely remember mine
I did a little crafts how-to thingie on a couple of local news channels for a while. The noon program wasn't so bad...it was the morning show, when I had to be at the studio at some ungodly hour...4:30 a.m....that nearly killed me.

16. Mine was on Fox!!
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 10:55 AM by bertha katzenengel
Well, the local Fox affiliate. I auditioned to sing the national anthem at a minor league ballpark last year. I sucked (haven't sung in seven years), but they showed part of my audition anyway.

It was made worse by their lame editor. First they showed a little girl singing "oh, say, can you see by the dawn's early light," then me, singing the next phrase, barely a half tone higher. It made me sound worse. :(

:hi:

Edited to brag: I was on TV a couple of times w/ the chorus I was with in the 90s. And when I was two, my picture was in the L.A. Times as a child on whom these two docs had performed open-heart surgery. I was wearing a froofy dress; even then I was mortified.

19. I was on a quiz show called "Split Second" back in
1973. I won a car and $500.00. It was kind of embarrassing because I didn't do all that well on the first part of the show which was answering rapid fire trivia questions against two opponents. However, I came through with some correct answers in what was called the "Count Down Round" at the end of the show and won the opportunity to turn the key in one of five Pontiac models to see if it would start. I chose the Firebird and sure enough.....fired right up.

I was a college student at the time and that was my first car. Kept it two years before trading it in for a much more economical and more reliable Honda.
