Don't forget the birds.
I found one hopping on my porch this morning and thought he had flown into the window. He hadn't. He was so starved, he was more interested in pecking at the birdseed on the ground around the feeders than he was afraid of me. Take care of the little ones if you can. By the way, he filled himself up and flew away. I put out pounds and pounds of feed for them. I have 100's of birds daily. Very, very fun to watch.

1. I live in Florida
but still feed the birds everyday. I have one redwing blackbird in particular, that if I have neglected to put out the feed, sits and chirps quite loudly at me through the window. I call him Chip. He has gotten so used to my coming when he calls that he sits right next to my hand while I put out the seed. I think he would hop on my hand if I would only be patient enough.

reach. I thought he was hurt but he was only starving, the little angel. god bless the beasts and birdies.

2. Let me ask you something
In the early fall I reduce the amount of seed I put out so as not to encourage those that should migrate from hanging around. Then after about a month I'll go back to normal.

I know the jays, cardinals, and titmouses (mice?) stick around through the winter, but are there some seedeaters that migrate south?

4. that is a good plan, sammmythecat. There are some that should be
gone but we had a blizzard and searingly cold storm a few days ago that blew a robin into my backyard and out again. I was going to catch it but couldn't. It is an affirmation of global warming that a robin is here in Alaska in March.
