Cake (because it's a group) is a noun of multiplicity
you can say "Cake are" because it's more than one, or "Cake is" because it is also one unit, which takes the singular

That is the only explination I can come up with for why my hands are so beat up all the time.

My right arm goes straight under the pillow, and my left arm goes on top of the blanket. I always sleep on the right side of my body for some reason.

I sleep most of the night face down with no pillow, right leg sorta bent for comfort, and head facing right.

If I get up to pee, then I'll change pace by adding a pillow and sleeping on my side.
