Is it harder to live without driving or without sex?
My license is suspended and I am climbing the walls.

7. You're right, I'm an alien freak my opinion has no validity
OTOH, it really isn't that much of a challenge to structure your life so that you live within biking distance of places to eat, work and play. No matter which part of the country you live in. Most people choose not to do this but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

11. Um.... I sure as heck did not mean that.
Sorry if you took it that way.

However, up here in Maine, even in the city, come winter traveling outdoors, especially in Portland, in any vehicle other than a car means taking a very dangerous risk with your life. The car free lifestyle is damned near impossible up here, and we try very hard at it, having one of us work in walking distance and even paying more to use an in-city daycare, which barely exists, most daycares being in the 'burbs.

Of course, I thought this thread was meant to be light hearted.

I just like pointing out that being car-free is possible even if you don't live in a major city.

14. Ah, good. I'm glad you're not offended.
:whew:

Personally, I'm hoping that one upside to gas prices is greater public transport. I'd LOVE to only use our car for the occasional trip out to the grandparents house in the boonies.
One thing we are seeing more of up here is dedicated bike lanes. Very cool.

35. It is possible, indeed. I go THREE WEEKS (or more) between fillups on my car. And we'd do the
same with Mrs R's car, except that I use it for my business trips.

Living in town is great.

But the first time you drive your car again, it's as satisfying as having sex for the first time in months. Especially if you have a fast car.

So I'd rather drive.

Where I live, celibacy would be preferable to being unable to drive. Seriously.

19. It depends on where you live and what your mindset is
If you're in New York City or Chicago or Portland, Oregon, or any other city with good public transit, lacking a car is no handicap at all.

If you live in a city with less public transportation or in a small town, you can probably still walk a lot more places than you think you can. If you're a healthy adult, a walk of one mile should be utterly simple and take you no more than 20 minutes.

If you live in one of those idiotically planned suburbs where you can't possibly shop or work or do anything without driving, well, then you should have thought of that before you moved there.

I live in Chicago - haven't had a car in 15 years. No biggie.

I went without sex for two years once and DAMN. I think I almost shot up a McDonald's or something.

29. I've gone a long, long time without driving...
:) I used to go long stretches of time without driving when I was in college. I didn't have a car, so I either took the bus or walked. My boyfriend at the time had a car, but he lived an hour away from me.

I can't say the same thing about sex. It's easier to go without driving.

32. I couldn't live without sex
...but I could live easily without driving. The whole reasons Vulcans are not one of my favorite Star Trek aliens is because they only have sex every seven years. Ahhhhhhh...

There are buses and friends with cars and some places have subways and els but Rosy and her sisters NEVER make up for a real person.

42. Sex
Without driving I couldn't work. Without work I couldn't pay my bills and I'd starve & freeze to death on the streets.

Nobody ever died for lack of sex.

Being without driving is harder. Every so often my life requires me to rent a car for one reason or other.

Of course, if sex could be rented for $24.95 a day, I'd probably do that at least once a month.

If I go longer than three days without sex I feel like my head is going to explode. I don't particularly like driving, too many idiots on the road.
