Poll question: Do you wear your wedding ring?
I don't, but then again I regularly work with high voltage where a ring would be a bad idea. How about you?

29. speaking of ...
I gave all the cash I had with me (7, 8 dollars) to a woman with two gold teeth standing with her baby outside the store I was leaving this afternoon. She spoke a Slavic language and held an index card that explained her needs (money to feed her baby). Onlookers made fun of me for giving.

6. I tried, I really did. Even switched it to my little finger because it snagged on my
guitar strings when I wore it on my ring finger.

I really did try, and you can ask Mrs R. But it made me nuts, because I've never worn jewelry of any sort, nor even a wristwatch. Got to the point where I'd put in on when I was going out of the house / office, and took it off right away when I got back.

And you know what THAT habit led to, right? You're right: Lost ring.

Fortunately, Mrs R understands, and has not pressured me to replace it.

83. I take mine off at night, too. I just don't like sleeping with rings on
and I have an "engagement" ring that I wear with it. IT has a stone and snags on things sometimes. Mostly, I wear my rings because I want people to know I am married and I think they look nice and of course, I am attached to them cuz my hubby gave them to me.

The saddest thing is when widows wear their husband's ring on a chain around their neck. My boss and my coworker do that. It is sweet but I feel so bad for them...

too dangerous - caught a finger with a differnet ring in a calf chute a long time ago - that was a good lesson. Also for some stupid reason we got gold rings (tradition) and I really prefer silver. So I don't even put it on when I do wear jewelry.

not any more. I busted the knuckle up on my left ring finger pretty bad about 10 years ago. It left the knuckle larger than it used to be. I had the ring resized to fit over the knuckle, but then it was loose and flopped around too much once I slid it all the way on. The Mrs, doesn't care, we never have been too much into the whole symbolism thing of it anyway.

My engagement ring/wedding ring belonged to my husband's mother, and she left it to him when she died. My FiL gave it to her right before he shipped out during WWII. It's a very slender set, platinum, with a diamond and baguette's on the engagement ring, and a tiny row of diamonds on the wedding ring. I told my husband, when we decided to make it legal, that I didn't want the whole ring thing, but I didn't know his mother's set had been saved for him in a safety deposit box. It was pretty much the only thing, worth anything, the she had left for him.

Sometimes, I wear nothing at all (it's loose at times) or I just wear the wedding ring, which is so slender it doesn't look like a wedding ring. I've has people "approach" me when I'm just wearing the wedding ring, and held it up to indicate my status. Several have been mad, because they didn't recognize it as a wedding ring.

OTOH, I've had many compliments on it (all by women) because it's so dainty, and not showy at all.

49. In my first marriage, I didn't wear mine because my husband didn't wear his.
He also worked with equipment where wearing the ring would have been dangerous. My husband was fine with this. I didn't wear mine because I disliked the fact that society thought that it was acceptable for a man to not wear a wedding ring but not a woman.

Currently, both my husband and I wear our rings.

54. I used to wear mine, but I can't get to it now

It was getting a little small for the ring finger and I'd wear in on the pinkie intermittantly. Unfortuantely the pinkie was a little to small for the ring and it is now resting (somewhere) in a local pond (at least I know where it is).

Still feel it on my finger though, even after 15 years.

My wife stopped wearing hers after the 2nd kid came along, a combination of not fitting on the swollen fingers of a pregnant women and it being dangerous at work.

66. Have only taken mine off once--
for a medical procedure. The hospital made me.

But I love seeing it there on my finger every day. Ours are just little silver bands with engraved lines through the center (bought at a little Asian-owned shop in West Edmonton Mall), but that day reminds me of the happiest time in my life.

We told my new future brother and sister-in-law and nieces before we told anybody else. They were with us looking over our shoulders excitedly when we bought them.

69. I'd like to...
but I'm no longer married.

Still, I love the ring, and it cost mucho bucks.

What should I do with it???

89. Hmmm... *considering*
It would be kind of an alloy if melted...it's about 2/3 platinum and 1/3 gold. It would probably look more silvery, but would make a helluva tooth.

Maybe we can photoshop this so you're sure ya want it...;)

90. Ya mean me with one gold tooth and one warm silver tooth?
It can only be an improvement :)

I wouldn't want you to melt it down. When you're 95 you'll take it out from wherever you've kept it, and remember. By then it should be all good.

75. Guess I can't hide it, eh?
Thank you, I am plenty ready. I have been pregnant for almost two years! This was an "oops" pregnancy. I had my son last June. This little boy and his brother will be 11 months apart. Ah, however we are done! The uterus is retired after this one!

77. So you say!
My "oops" baby came six 1/2 years after I thought my uterus was done. Of course as you know, it wasn't awfully funny at the time.

80. Oh, I hope so
We will be sure just before the baby is born to see if the procedure that my husband had done did it's job. He volunteered for the fixing. Doesn't want me going through any surgeries or taking b.c. He says that having the babies are enough on the poor body. He is a sweetie for doing so.

79. Yes, I do ...
but I shouldn't. It's got paint in between the diamonds now and has some little scratches on the gold. I really should learn to take it off when I'm doing nasty jobs. :banghead:

82. I take mine off when I go to bed.
I like to sleep naked. And for some reason I feel more naked when I haven't got my ring on.

85. Yes, the first one is at the bottom of a lake
The replacement was a size smaller, and it won't go over my knuckle now, so I'm always wearing my ring.

88. Rarely, for a reason similar to yours.
Part of my job involves doing fan checks and other maintenance inside of computer servers while they're running (most high-quality modern servers allow hot swapping of parts). One day, I fried a computer because my wedding ring hit a couple of hot solder joints. After that, we posted a notice on the server cages reminding people to remove their rings when servicing the equipment. Over the following three months, I accidentally left my ring in servers on three different occasions...including one day when I'd checked 14 different machines. Luckily, I'd left it in the third, and hadn't decided to work through them backwards.

At first, I just started leaving it in my office, but after forgetting it a few times I just stopped wearing to work completely. Then I stopped putting it on AFTER work.

Nowadays, I only wear it on weekends when I'm not doing anything physical, or when I'm going out with my wife. She wears hers religiously, but has no problem with me not wearing mine.

91. Most of the time, unless it's something hazardous.
To the ring, or to me. See, the ring is 119 years old and the original stone (a cabochon garnet of amazing size and clarity) has been reset in the original setting twice. I want to continue wearing this ring until I can pass it on to my niece, and that means taking care of it. So it does not go in water, soil or anywhere it might get icky. Fortunately, it's a cab, so I don't have to worry about snagging it on things.

DH wore his for 80% of the first two years we were married, then he lost it during year 3 for most of a year. (I found it in a bag of cans of cat food...) He's pretty good about wearing his now, but we have the same agreement there, too -- his ring is 90 years old.
