I am in town, and have been ripped off, no phone, no wallet etc.. making it a bit hard to get hold of people.

normally, I would not even ask this here, but this is an odd situation.

all I really would like is to make a phone call, thats it.

unfortunately, cell phones dont accept collect calls.

I suppose you could give someone a call and ask them to check their e-mail.

I think Malta Blue has graciously offered to make a call for me and inform someone of my plight, and hopefully to get them to check their e-mail so I can get the ball rolling.

I cancelled everything already, so thats not an issue, and I was at a branch of my bank a bit ago trying to convince them I was who I say I am (without ID) and tried to get money from my account, they were going to think about it for a while and let me know (we will see how that goes). I answered all their questions right, even the secret one. and the friend you called isn't too far away.

And like you posted, you did get a free cup of coffee and you have your mac, it could be worse. You could be stuck with one of the lap tops with a flaming battery or no lap top at all.

I have not installed my replacement yet...

and maybe you don't want to drink that coffee, just keep it handy. x(

He is going to get to a computer as soon as he can...he is not near one right now.

I am now in Ann Arbor, finally made it here, but it was an adevnturous trip for sure.

I attempted to sell my iBook on craigslist, had a lot of interest so I said first person to show up with 500 bucks, gets it.

So, two guys came by the coffee shop, looked at it, expressed interest, and as we were getting ready to leave and I was putting my trash in the trash can, they grabbed my computer and ran out the door.

I tried to chase but it was fruitless, I can not run very well with a bad knee.

SO basically. right now, I hate Chicago...

But anyway, I got where I needed to be thanks to the call that was made by a DUer above to a friend of mine.

And now that this ordeal is over, I want to thank every DUer that helped, especially for the Phone call that was made, that helped tremendously.

it may be a while before I go back to Chicago though.
