Do you consider yourself nonviolent?
If so, is there any situation that could incite you to violence?

3. Interesting you should bring that up.
I consider myself a pretty nonviolent person, but I was talking with my mom last night and I told her that if I ever met "president" Bush, I would be very tempted to (at the very least) spit on him. (I know spitting isn't exactly violent, but it's rude and not something I would normally even consider doing to another human being...however, this "president" has incited some very violent and angry feelings in me that quite frankly shocked me a little. I didn't realize I could hate that much, but after the death of one of my friends and 3,200 other troops in this immoral, illegal, unethical and ill-considered war, I am quickly losing my capacity for charitable thoughts toward this man.) :grr: So, I guess the short answers to your questions would be: yes and yes. (I'm sure there are other situations, too, but I'll just leave it at that for now.)

26. In my head, anything goes
Edited on Thu Mar-15-07 02:40 PM by sammythecat
I go from dripping sentimentality to the worst imaginable. I'm sure most of us are the same in that regard.

In real life I'd only be violent in defense of myself or someone, anyone, else. Any other instance would only make me feel shame and regret.

on edit: sorry, I meant to reply to the main post. I hate when I do that! :banghead:

4. I would like to consider myself non-violent.
I have a beastly temper and I usually go into the garage and count backwards to keep myself from yelling and such. Sometimes I hit the wall though.

5. No.
I would not consider myself nonviolent by any stretch. However, I have only gotten into a physical fight once in my life to this point (I'm 20), and that was not anything I initiated. After this other dude I'd kinda hated for years clotheslined me unexpectedly and started throwing wrestling moves on me and attempting to hit my face on the corner of a doorframe I got pretty damned mad and we got going there for awhile. A friend of mine pulled us apart, and for a moment me and fuckface were looking at each other like I imagine two cave men would have looked at each other when there was only one piece of meat left in the cave. Then, considering that I didn't want to be expelled from high school for fighting (it was on a school trip) two months before graduation and thereby having my college acceptance rescinded, I walked away.

But, if I'd had my way, my friend and I would have pummeled that jackass and I'd have loved it. I was kind of enraged at myself for two days afterwards and it was a bit of an identity crisis for me, but I got over it. I still owe that guy a royal ass kicking.

I feel like I could be rather violent right now. Maybe not striking another living creature but I'd sure like to beat the hell out of something.

I am definitely non-violent....

So far anyway...

But boy, can I ever raise my voice!

You might be surprised to hear me then.

I have an awful temper, and there have been times when I've hauled it out and put it to good use...

I flash, and then it's over.....

but the more I watch George Carlin the more he makes me want to throw a garbage can through a McDonalds or something like that, or maybe just snatch a cell phone from a blabbering fool on the train and stomp on it. I love that man!

Yes, non-violent by nature. But if called to do it, and circumstances warranted it, I could do violence. I wouldn't feel good about it, but I think I would do it.

22. Up to this point
I've been nonviolent. I mean, if someone was getting attacked I would try to defend them but I've never been in a situation where I've had to do so. I used to consider myself a pacifist. Now? Not really.

23. I used to think so.
I'm not so sure about that now...

I will kick the snot out of anybody that lays hands on me.

I will do damage to anyone that physically hurts (or attempts to) my child or my husband.

If somebody kicks in my front door I'll be waiting and I'll be sure to drag them inside before I call the police.

If somebody wants my car, my cash, or my TV set they can have it. STUFF doesn't matter to me--people DO.

----

I gave up any illusion about my own proclivity to violence when acting in defense a long time ago. Many years ago I was single and I had a female roommate. One night I had gone to bed and woke up to hear my roommate screaming out in our living room. There was a man on top of her literally tearing at her clothing while she screamed. I grabbed my baseball bat and ran out fully prepared to "swing away." Fortunately, he rolled of her and passed out before I got there because I was most certainly gonna inflict some major damage to his head.

We lived on the second floor and we dragged him out our door and pitched him down the stairs. Then we called the police about the drunk dude laying in our stairwell with his car parked and running in the parking lot....

I also heard later that her boyfriend the biker and a couple of his buddies had a "little chat" with the guy and he left town shortly after that.

I won't start anything. I will, however, feel free to finish it if I can.

Laura

30. I see violence as a tool which is normally used by tools
honestly, I HATE fighting. I think it is stupid and fairly worthless and can lead to some major trouble, from legal to retribution. It's the first recourse of morons. I will defend myself and others if it comes to that, but most situations can be talked down or walked away from, and you're better off for it. It does NOT make someone less of a man or woman to walk away from a fight; if anything it takes courage to not lower yourself to your instincts. All it takes to fight is not courage but usually stupidity and being afraid of looking weak.

That said, because of my smart mouth combined with a bigger, older, meaner brother I was in fist fights almost every day for the first 18 years of my life. I know how to fight, and I can fight dirty if need be (although Master Lee says there is no such thing: you do what you have to do to end a fight as quickly as possible). I have not had to fight in anger in years, although I do have some friends that I like to spar with and have had to defend myself a couple of times, but it was over after throwing them to the ground in a decent arm-lock. They didn't really want to fight after that for some reason.

What bothers me is that lately I have noticed myself becoming more of an angry person in general, and have noticed this in others as well. All of my life I have been a "slow burner" - it took a lot to piss me off, and lately I get mad a lot more quickly than I prefer.

33. I'm not violent because I have to be.
I saw the violent me a couple of times as a young man, and I didn't like him, not at all.

But he's still in there somewhere, and maybe that's why people don't mess with me. Or maybe it's my friendly smile. Or utter cluelessness.
