I have a new contender for the Stupidest Driver Ever Award:
So I go to pick my dad up at the Orange County Airport, and on my way home, we pass a car, and the driver is doing a crossword puzzle while driving.

You cant make this shit up, folks.

4. I couldn't believe it either!
The woman was holding the crossword in one hand, positioned over the steering wheel, using her pinky finger to steer the car, and had a pencil in the other hand. And this was on CA-55 during rush hour traffic, I might add.

5. Here is mine:
I have been driving for 40 years. Twice in that time I have seen drivers stop ***ON*** THE RAILROAD TRACK and look both ways, before pulling off the tracks. The first time I was about 17, and I had to pull over and listen to music for a while just to get over what I saw.

6. Don't be so judgemental
There might have been a good excuse. Maybe her kids had been abducted and the kidnapper left clues hidden in the crossword puzzle, and she had to figure out the puzzle on a deadline before she reached a certain definition to save her children.

And here you are, condemning her kids to a life of slavery! You should be ashamed!

8. This is true

It happened to me just the other day.

Except that it was a frozen pizza, not children. And it was a remote control, not a crossword puzzle. And I was sitting on a couch, not driving, and drinking raspberry Diet Rite. Otherwise, it was a startlingly similar situation.

7. I was on I696 one day,
traffic going it's usual about 75-80mph, and came up on, then passed a woman reading something she was holding in her left hand. I was flabergasted. Who the hell catches up on their reading at 70mph?

17. I-696? Who cares if they're reading?
If they're only going 70, they're blocking traffic!

Read faster, dammit!

I wouldn't want the paramedics to get all dirty and disheveled looking around in all the bushes for the corpse.

11. I was once on the Mass Turnpike and we passed a guy who was reading a book while he was driving.
I kid you not. And I got a good look; he was reading a book and not a map. Scared me to death, so it stuck in my mind. And the cops object to cell phones...:scared:

14. A couple months ago I was in Norwalk, CA...
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 11:31 AM by EOO
And I was trailing this guy for at least 20 minutes, and the guy was swerving in and out of lanes and going 20 miles below the speed limit. My first thought was "He HAS to be talking on a cell phone". I finally get to the point where I can pass him, and sure enough, not only was he talking on a cell phone, he was simultaneously reading a fold-out map *AND* he was trying to drink a Starbucks at the same time! I'm not making this one up, either!

21. Yikes! How can people do this?! I agree, it is insane what people will do on the road.
When I pass people who are talking on cell phones, I cringe, since it's illegal here in NY state, and dangerous, but I see people every single day who are doing this in heavy traffic, not paying much attention. I just don't get it, since I don't even take my hands off the wheel to adjust the radio if I'm being passed by tractor trailers. Your guy sounds like a pip, as well. It's scary, but people do this everyday and manage to survive.:scared:

13. Take I-95 North toward NOVA/D.C. and you will see quite a few folks
reading the paper while driving. Spread across the steering wheel, 80 m.p.h., utterly clueless.

I cringe and wait for the impact, and I've seen the impact more than once.

My dad says they make CA drivers seem normal by comparison.

19. Yep, I still recall a guy going past me with a newspaper spread
across his steering wheel! I remember it like it was yesterday, despite it taking place at least 10 years ago, on the way to work in the morning, so it was still relatively dark (wintertime). It was a 55 zone and I was going around 65, and he was obviously going faster than that - I thought about blasting my horn just make him shit his pants, but with my luck, he probably would have ended up taking me off the road with him... :grr:
