14. Lancelot Link
Pretty funny, the chimp version of Get Smart, but with an all-chimp band. And if I'm not mistaken, the voice of the evil chimp spy Baron What's-his-name was also the voice of Maxwell Smart's arch nemisis, Siegfried.

It's About Time and Mister Terrific were favorites, for the short time they were on TV.

As was Lost in Space. And Alias Smith and Jones.

67. Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman!
Also the short-lived Planet of the Apes TV series.

A few more...

Run, Joe Run. A man, a dog, and a Jeep.

On the Rocks. A prison sitcom.

My Favorite Martian. One of the many 60's shows that was about hiding a big secret from the neighbors. There was always something to cover up. If the mom/wife wasn't a witch she was a genie, or even a car.

It starred Bill Bixby before he hulked-out.

Thundar the Barbarian. Post-apocolyptic Saturday morning cartoon fare.

9. I attended tapings of "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" and "That's My Mama"
among other shows. I went through a phase of going to those shows in the 1970s. The tickets were free and you could see some stars. The downside is that there were usually a lot of long, boring waits and the studios were always freezing. The "Sonny and Cher" episode I saw taped was the one where Jack Palance was the guest star. At that time I had no idea who the hell he was. Teri Garr was one of the cast regulars. The taping of "That's My Mama" I attended was the pilot episode.

26. That is extremely cool!
I remember those shows! You are a part of television history and not many people can say that! :D I was just once on a local kids' show and appeared a few times on another one, as a teen-ager, which was on the local PBS channel, that nobody will ever remember. *sigh* You, on the other hand, made history, and I envy you! Though I may be prejudiced, since I used to write about TV for a living, so TV became important to me... But I still think that this was very cool...:hi:

50. Thanks... although all I ever did was sit in the audience. I remember Cher cursing a lot.
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 02:16 PM by bob_weaver
Cher seemed to blow her lines frequently, and we knew when she blew her line because she just stopped and said, "Oh f**k" or something similar. It was a little shocking to see and hear her curse, in the early 1970s that kind of talk was still pretty rare in "polite company" and to see a TV star talking like that was strange. She seemed to be somewhat diva-like and primadonna-like. Sonny, on the other hand, was unflappable and took everything in stride, very easygoing and likeable. 20 years later I saw him again in person, when I was working at a newspaper and he was running for the Calif. state assembly. He breezed through the office once and waved and smiled at everyone, but didn't stop.

86. Hey, being witness to history of this kind is really very cool.
And I can imagine things as you described, Cher cursing and Sonny calming the waters. You've had a very unique experience and are very fortunate to have been there. My closest brush with TV celebrity was that Michelle Phillips once walked into the room when I was on the phone with my contact at FOX Network and asked directions of my friend and I heard the whole exchange. And I once met David Cassidy at Saratoga Race Track. Your stories are much better than mine and I'm impressed. I always really liked Sonny and Cher. :D

10. "Temperatures Rising" was a funny medical sitcom in the early 1970s
I think it was only on for 1 year, then was cancelled, but then a year later it was revived as "The New Temperatures Rising Show" but it wasn't nearly as funny as the original.

It's on overload now!

I'm 41 and recall most of the ones already listed in the thread...plus...

- Watching The Brady Bunch and Partridge Family as "new" shows, not syndicated

- The Muppet Show

- Scooby Doo before Crappy Scrappy

- Some cartoon half-hour with my favorite, Penelope Pitstop (I named my first car Penelope because of it)

- The end of the cartoons (pout) was signalled by American Bandstand and Soul Train

- The original Battlestar Galactica

- Saturday afternoon monster movies (always scared the crap out of me--I had no idea they were so cheesy--House on Haunted Hill gave me nightmares for weeks)

- A British kids-in-a-band show, The Double Deckers--LOVED that show

- Emergency

- All the male-detective shows: Cannon, Hawaii 5-0, Barnaby Jones, Quincy, Mannix, Rockford Files--SO many plaid sportcoats...

- Lawrence Welk (after my grandparents had dinner at our house)

On edit: And they'd give ANYbody a variety show--Jim Stafford? :wtf:

46. The Banana Splits
The Banana Splits-- still looking for the DVD collection of that show (Adventure Island was my introduction to the "cliff-hanger". "Oh oh-- CHANGO!!!!")

Charlie's Angels

Tuesday night line-up on CBS/ABC/NBC (don't remember the channel): Carol Burnett Show followed by Mary Tyler Moore Show and then All in the Family.

My first television memory-- The Brady Bunch getting preempted by the Watergate hearings. I think that's why I still hold Republics in such contempt...

On Edit: Youngest son's name was Bud.

I drove my own kids CRAZY when we went on a vacation to the Keys
by joking about how lame they were compared to Bud and Sandy in
nature situations throughout the everglades. They didn't "get" it.....

I was in high school when Tomorrow was on, and I NEVER missed it during any school break or in the summer.

I wonder what he's doing these days.

There was also a weekend show that ran one Saturday night in place of Saturday Night Live -- Weekend, I think, and it was hosted by Lloyd Dobyns and Linda Ellerbee. They were too cool, as well.

101. It's About Time started out as spacemen in the Stone Age
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 07:56 PM by Art_from_Ark
It's about time, it's about place
It's about two men in outer space
Wait til you hear about the crew
When through the barrier of time they flew
Past the fighting minute man
Past the English knight
Past the Roman warrior
To this ancient site...

Then they changed the format to "cavemen in New York" when it became too difficult to write for the "spacemen in the Stone Age" scenario.

I remember all those shows well. Even "A Year At The Top." I thought the theme song was cool.

I miss the variety shows the most.

My addition to the list would be any Dean Martin Celebrity Roast. Those were as funny as hell.

Thanks (?) for the memories. :)
