7. yeah Mark, that would have been fun!
I still remember buddies of mine in college hitch-hiking across the state to Philly in a snow storm to see them. Sigh.

8. i would give an arm to have been able to see them live back in the day
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 02:55 PM by mark414
if i could pick any time it would've been the year between Give 'Em Enough Rope and London Calling - so the setlist would be built on those first two albums with cuts from their 'upcoming album' thrown in for good measure...

*sigh*

it seems strange to me that i am such a huge music (in general) fan but my allegiances go more on a song to song, album to album basis - meaning i don't really have any favorite bands, just favorite records and singles.

the clash are the only exception to that rule (along with woody guthrie)

Joe Strummer, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy rock be done,
in earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily song.
And forgive us our guilty pleasures,
As we forgive the philistines that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from disco:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the (death or) glory,
(it's just another story)
For ever and ever.
Amen.

you are sorely missed

10. I did get to see them once , alas, during the Sandanista tour
which wasn't bad in itself, they had bouncers stationed on the aisles to decrease rowdiness, I think, or a not so subtle comment on fascism....

I'm just glad I got to see them, but I would have preferred to see em from the times you cited. London Calling is an amazing album, I still play it a lot. Friends of mine had a Joe Strummer memorial concert a few years back where they played through the whole album. It was amazing and fun, and was an excuse for the husband and I to actually go out to a show and forget we were tired old mom and dad for a while.

15. Actually at the Oakland Coliseum.
Usually the opening act is something you sit through before the main event, but even at 16 I realized that I was watching something special on the stage.
