Taxes
Yes a serious lounge post.

How do you file your taxes? Online? Do you take it somewhere? Fill out the forms and mail them?

I usually do it myself with the forms but I am feeling lazy this year and wondering if I should take it to one of those H&R Block places or one of those quick places?

What do you do?

1. Online
with Quicken.

Now that I see it, that sounds like a nice soy-subsitute for fowl.

2. SIL is a CPA
We usually have her do them, which usually means filing for an extension since she is too busy during tax season.

4. Had to mail mine in. Cannot file married filing separately via
E-File in the state of Washington unless your spouse is in the military. A bit discriminatory, if you ask me.

(And it makes no difference in our return amounts filing separately or together; I've figured it out both ways.)

6. I do it my self, and I always have.
I fill out the paper forms and mail them.

If it were free to e-file, I would do that--I did for 2004 and 2005--but this year all the IRS e-file linked places had an AGI limit. I refuse to pay to file a tax return.

Even filing a paper claim, it only took about three weeks to get my refund.

7. online and e-filed
If you go to the IRS site and make under a certain amount, you may be able to file for free. The one company I would have used and was familiar with, had an age limit of 50 so we couldn't do it. My daughter told me about taxcut online..cheaper than going out to buy the program or downloading it online. So..for $20, I did my federal taxes on their website, e-filed them and printed out my copy. Our state, Ohio, has free I-file so I didn't have to pay extra for that.

Previous years we bought tax software and then printed and mailed them.

My son pays around $80 to a CPA to do his. He swears by it..less hassle he says.

8. I just posted a thread about going to our tax guy today, in fact.
ours are complicated, and we've gone to him for years, so that's our deal. We almost always end up having to file an extension, though....even when we've got a refund coming. :eyes:

Good luck! :hi:

11. we now use an accountant because of a major screw up we did last year
and the year before. I just mailed the feds a check for what we owed and the accountant filed both returns for us, the stae owes us which is a first. Her fee is totally reasobnable, we paid $225 for this year and for the screw last year and the year before she charged us $300, it was well worth it.

13. I do them online with TurboTax
Ours are very simple - we don't own any property and I don't even itemize deductions for me. The TurboTax helps me figure out the SO's deductions.
