I thanked a soldier today
The situation was your garden variety long line at a c-store checkout.
A young man in uniform (I recognized the insignia-101st Airborne) was
right behind me. When another register opened, I motioned him to go ahead.
He said "Thank you, sir". I said, "no, son thank YOU". He kinda blushed
and said "We very much appreciate that, sir".

First, I'm not used to being addressed as "sir". Second, he said "we", not
"I". Prayers, good vibes for his safety.

8. Just as a data point...
I try to say "sir" or "ma'am" all the time, and I was especially conscious of that when I was in uniform. We have a unique system of civilian leadership for the military, but service members should always try to stay aware of whom they're supposed to be working for. These are still two different worlds, unfortunately, and respect should go both ways--especially in a time of unitary executives (and a Congress) abusing our troops terribly.

Good job, Trucker, and a good job by young 101.
