my problem with lou reed
Edited on Sat Mar-24-07 08:57 AM by datasuspect
it seems at first that he is never as good as the people he surrounds himself with (VU).

i've seen documentaries about him and his live performances often seem like crap.

then there's "satellite of love." one of the best songs ever recorded. or "perfect day."

i think i am ambivalent about lou reed and think he is very talented at the same time.

2. My problem with Lou is that he quit writing vocal melodies about 25...
years ago. About the same time time that apparently he decided he was going to quit singing.
The only person that he worked with who was equally talented was John Cale. Both Moe and Sterling were very sweet people when I met them, but come on...

7. He stopped writing catchy songs. I think his high points match up well to Iggy Cale or Bowie

8. That's a fair assessment...
but Cale is still breathtaking in concert. I saw him a couple of years and was prepared for him to just be coasting on his reputation, but that was not the case. As my wife said, "I've never heard that level of musicianship in a place that smells like beer before tonight"
