I am shocked to hear it, no pun intended. I know I've been busy over the last 18 months, and not hanging in the Lounge much at all, but I can't believe I missed this! I'm sad to hear she's gone.

yes it was a crazy time. she was very good to me though, as was Misu.
progmom and i didnt chat on du very much, we occasionally do on myspace.

NSMA gave me a lot of support during a particularly bad patch in my life, even when all this lounge drama was going on.

I was blown away by the journey he took and the uproar it caused.......
I also read about Kephra, his passing was SO much like my brothers I got chills......
and everytime I read another post about him I was sobbing, absolutely sobbing
The way the old timers LOVED these beings is a testament to the true nature of humans......
I am proud to be in their company......

and yes, he does lurk here from time to time. He can't post anymore, but he still loves to drop by and read, find out what matcom is up to and make fun of GDs warlike tendencies.

Sadly, the folks at his office take a pretty dim view of the employees being passed out at work so he's forced to remain upright and conscious during the days. Maybe he could win the lotto one day and that would all change.

And Carlos posted without being payed for it. I'll bet the payroll for his replacements runs in the hundreds of thousands.

138. I miss Carlos quite a bit
Jiacinto went a bit haywire near the end when he moved to Miami, and then had problems with his relatives in Iowa. But unquestionably he had great knowledge of politics and would start many interesting threads, asking about voting trends in specific counties, etc.

Plus when I was new to DU in late '02 he replied to many of my posts and asked great questions. Some of my political theories are a bit atypical but Jiacinto took interest in them instead of shooting them down point blank.

128. I'll always have a soft spot for Longgrain.
He could be so... Longgrain-ish, but on the up side, he did found several very good Groups, including the Photo Group, the Art Group, and the Bob Dylan Group. Maybe he founded more, I don't know. Anyway, at least 85% of my DU time is spent in the Photo Group, so I'm thankful Longgrain was around long enough to kick it off.

She had that kind of ludicrously narrow "Oberlin freshman in the '80s" outlook on gender issues, but other than that she was fun to discuss stuff with, whether you agreed with her or not. :shrug:

She was certainly deep in the trenches, but then so were a lot of people (the above-mentioned SouthernGirlWriter leaps to mind again). That would have been a really great discussion to have had it not been polluted by meathead flame warriors who seemed to think that patronizingly telling people what they should or shouldn't find offensive was the whole point of the debate. Kind of like what's going on with homophobic jokes here now, come to think of it...

For the most part, I don't know what the hell happened to people. I don't really know anyone on DU in person, but I do appreciate the humor and personality in many of the banned posters.

I think it's unfortunate that they couldn't stay for whatever reason.
