2. Well, ya, that's how I differentiate them too

Freeways don't have stop lights and have entrance/exit ramps and overpasses, but highways intersect at stop lights. I ask this question though because people I know, specifically from the east are perplexed by the word freeway, and find it synonymous with highway.

4. By freeway I mean freeway

In the sense that they are differentiated; all interstates are freeways, some US highways are freeways, and some state highways are freeways. No interstates are highways. Some people make no distinction between freeway and highway though, and that confuses me.

Here in Oklahoma most of I-44 is a toll road.

I haven't driven the whole thing so I'm not really sure.

The definition of a freeway is a highway without tolls. That is what I meant by my earlier post about 1-44 being a toll road, not a freeway.
