BeanieWeenies?

Having been a biker, horseman, and sportsman I will confess to indulging in many a cold can of pork and beans straight from the saddlebags. Beanie Weenies have tasted pretty good at times, too. An old P-38 GI Folding Pocket Can Opener is usually on my keychain, though I have sawed open more than a few cans with my Buck knife. They have those with the pull tab now.

Can't get past the name to buy Bush's beans. I have tried Bush's beans before, but I prefer the Van Camp brand.

the canned pork and beans as a start, adding dark brown sugar, onions, garlic, bacon, peppers, and lots of BBQ sauce. I love them!

Once in awhile brown sugar. Often Garlic Stuff™.

I'd never heard of beanee weenees (or beanie weanies) before, until recently. Now I can't help but laugh at the person it will forever remind me of. Ahhhh silliness and the stupid things we do.

It has been going on for about 5 years now (since I took over grocery shopping responsibilities). While my aunt and I were staying at my mom and stepdad's house, they found my stash of Beenie Weenies. No kidding.

My stepdad was looking for a can of oyster stew and found them along with several cans of pinto beens and butter beans and tomato soup. I didn't even realize I was doing it until he asked me about it. I looked in the back of the cabinet where no light could reach a certain spot and sure as the world, there they were.

After enduring quite a bit of silly ridicule and hysterical laughter from my family, I made my stance: I've lived through enough hurricanes and winter storms that have knocked the power out for 4 days or more to know that it's good to have a nice little stash of nonperishables. After much debate and a firm sticking to my guns on the issue, they eventually saw my idea for the genius that it was and promptly continued to ridicule me from that day forward. It still goes on to this day.

My deal: I buy a few cans of Beenie Weenies, pinto beans and butter beans each week. I eat some cans to keep them rotated. In most situations when we lose power, everyone around buys bread and milk like it's the last thing on this earth. I try for that too, but assuming I don't get to the grocery store in time, I like to know that I can eat my Beenie Weenies if power is out and use the emergency kerosene heater to heat the pinto beans and the butter beans and tomato soup. If I was lucky enough to get bread, I can dip a slice of bread in any of the afore mentioned items and make a nice little meal to tide me over until the power comes back.

I guess you can tell from this that my answer is a resounding yes or as my stepdad puts it: Don't get between her and her Beenie Weenies. You might get hurt. :rofl: And yes, he does laugh hysterically when he says that.
