Did Simon on AI admit last night that this season is going to be a "wash"

Simon following Sanjaya's performance:

"I don't think it matters anymore what we say. I genuinely don't. You are in your own universe and if people like you, good luck".

May be just me, but that sounds like Simon being resigned to the fact that outside forces (in the form of Stern and VFTW) are in control of the results of the show this year.

I don't generally watch the show although this year has provided good fodder for water cooler talk at work.
