Just checking in

Well, after a three-day ordeal, I made it Minnesota and am now camping out at my mother's house, accessing DU over a dial-up connection via AOL (aaaaaarrrrggggh!) and waiting for my household goods to arrive.

Lessons learned from the experience:

1) If the moving company sends people to pack your stuff, WATCH THEM. They will pack everything that doesn't run away from them, even if it's on loan from a friend or you need to be using it.

2) Do not move during one of the hottest weeks of the year. It's amazing that I had to come to the Midwest to cool off.

3) The airlines do not like to sell one-way tickets and will price gouge like crazy, charging more than for a roundtrip. I finally had to fly through Denver on Frontier to get a reasonable price.

That's about it for now. Given the high irritation factor involved in posting this way, I'll be mostly lurking until I have broadband again, although I did feel compelled to respond to Koko1's post in GD.)

On our last move we got ashtrays complete with cigarette butts, full wastebaskets, and 2 dirty breakfast dishes they got to before we could wash up.
Too late now, but buy the round trip and burn the return.
