Yup, lil'l ol' me got laid off for the first time at age 50 something.
So what's the irony?
The irony is that through quirks in the severance package, unemployment compensation, cashing in 2 years of unused vacation, and the fortune of finding a new job within a month, last year was my best year ever, financially speaking. All told, I collected 15 months of pay for 11 month's work and one month on the bench.
Now the missus and I have to figure out how much to put into our IRAs, so we don't get zapped by Uncle Sugar.
To my former employer, who shall remain nameless:
