Miz t. the translator.
A friend down the street is from Colombia.
She has a pretty heavy accent.
Recently she found a lump in her breast and had it biopsied.
Happily, it's benign.
But the doc still thinks it should be removed.

We have another friend in the neighborhood who is a retired general practitioner/ER physician. She's happy to talk with friends who have medical problems, explore options, consequences, possibilities, etc. and she's very good.

She's English.
Been a citizen for 20 or more years, but still has a very pronounced (pun intended) British accent.

So, since Miz t. understands the doc friend quite well, and the Colombian friend quite well, she's down there to translate for them.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall.

4. Funny story about Gloria, the Colombian lady...
One of my pet peeves is people who phone and don't identify themselves.
"Hi, is Miz t. there?"
"Hey, trof?"

Well, that depends.
Who the hell is this?

But Gloria...Gloria whose accent leaves absolutely no doubt about who it is...ALWAYS says "'Allo? Dees ees Glawria. Haw you doin'? Ees Meez t. dere?"

3. i am one of those lucky people who do fine with accents
i rarely have trouble understanding people who are speaking english, no matter how thick the accent

kind of an odd talent, but a useful one

5. Yeah, once you get used to Gloria's it's OK.
I think she was afraid from Brit to 'Murican to Colombian might be more than they could handle.

And an hour & 15 later she's still there.
Can't wait to hear all about it.
