Woo Hoo, I just bought a BRAND NEW deluxe 4 head vcr!
That's right, not a dvd-vcr combo, a genuine vcr! It was the last one in stock (floor model) and the only one I could find in the small town I live near. I went to K-mart, they no longer had them. I even went to Wal-mart and they don't sell them anymore. I finally found one at the electronics express. NO MORE VCR's in Tullahoma, Tennessee, I have the LAST ONE suckers!

Yes, I know that they are totally worthless but I am doing some educational improvement and the place I rent my material from has some titles ONLY on VHS tapes.

1. At least you have a good reason for buying one.
I think all of the movie rental places around here have gone to DVD only.

2. I don't know where you could rent a movie on VHS round here.
I don't know why this place doesn't convert the tapes to DVD, there are only a few titles in the vhs format in their library. I am hoping the educational value will offset the cost of the 48 dollar machine. If not I could beg people to donate their unwanted VHS porn tapes to me????

7. It depends
I bought a DVD recorder/VCR combo with one-touch copying, so it should be easy, I haven't done it yet though.
If you have both a VCR and a DVD recorder then if all you want to do is make a straight copy then I think it is just a matter of hooking up the output of the VCR to the input of the DVD recorder, starting the video and starting the recording on the DVD recorder.
To do something fancy (like editing or breaking it up into chapters) is more complicated.

9. It's not that simple
I had to get a descrambling device to unscramble the signal that was on the VHS tapes in order to record a clean copy.

I got mine off of ebay, but they can't sell them any longer. They were made to pull all the ads.

13. On a side note, I have a digital camera that records off of the TV/VCR on to an SD card,
so far I haven't had any problems with macrovision or whatever the scrambling thing is called.

10. You're too late
I already gave my old porn tapes away, We're getting ready to set a vcr out with the garbage to see if anybody grabs it or if the trashmen take it.

4. Tullahoma?
I knew someone that once went to an academy there for prisons?

I went to a place called Winchester once. It was fairly close to Tullahoma.

5. Yes, we have the "state academy for corrections".
Also, Arnold engineering and development center (USAF) which mainly works on aircraft power plants. The recent flight of the "scram-jet" engine was made possible by a local company.
What on earth did you have to go to Winchester for? Nice small town but very little there.

8. I just bought one too
I wanted just the VCR but the combo was on sale for the same price and this way I could put our old DVD player in the bedroom. It's a Go-Video model and it's not the greatest VCR. I still use VCR's for taping cable. I'm not into the TIVO thing yet. I actually use 4 VCR's to record during the night when I'm at work one of them being a 1983 Beta-max Hi-Fi.

I was just figuring out how many VCR's I've owned since 1983 and came up with the number 10. Brand names don't seem to make any difference in terms of how long they lasted before they went Kaput. We don't watch a lot of TV but I do like to watch Countdown and TDS/Colbert every chance I get.

11. Those puppies are expensive, relatively. We needed one (to view some
sailing related videos from the library) - I ended up trading someone for an old HP Laser I had that was just taking up space.
