I haven't been to Portland in over a decade and a half....the first time I had a raspberry micro brew, was in KS, and it was...divine!...:D Most of the time the honey lager's, raspberry ales, are pretty damn good.

7. Currently Flying Dog Winter Ale, but the favorite constantly changes
Edited on Tue Apr-10-07 03:34 PM by kwassa

I drink a lot of IPAs, but other middle range ales as well.

Don't care for stout or lager, the two extremes. Pale Ales, Ambers, IPAs, Brown Ales mostly.

Dogfish Head, Backfin, Wild Goose, and other local microbrews.

Magic Hat IPA is very good and reasonably priced.

43. La Fin du Monde

"In February 1994, after 18 months of research, Unibroue launched La Fin du Monde (the end of the world). It is a 9 percent alcohol, triple fermentation beer. This type of beer was originally developed by the monks of the Middle Ages to be served on special occasions. La Fin du Monde is a deluxe beer made by triple fermentation and a unique way of straining the yeast. This method produces an unexpectedly subtle flavour. With its champagne-like effervescence, it has a vigourous presence in the mouth, which accentuates its strong personality. Slightly tart, with the balanced flavours of wild spices, malt and hops, it belongs to the class of great Trappist beers and, in this regard, is a North American first. At meals, it can replace white or red wines and enhances the flavour of most dishes."

48. Victory's Old Horizontal gets high marks from me.
I'm also quite partial to my current tipple, Flying Fish's Belgian Style Dubbel. What I like in a brew is depth, but drinkability--where I can appreciate the style of the brewing, the care in blending the flavor, but I can still crack it open without going "damn...tastes like fruit (or too much hops...or burnt toast...some failings I have come across with the kind of micro-explosion of the past what--decade?) For "session" drinking, nothing wrong with your fine English brews, though--Newkies, Boddingtons, and although I talk about the "too much hops" phenomenon, I like a nice IPA-Troeg's does a swell one--cuts the grease with fish and chips or greasy pizza (which I generally end up scarfing when it's beer time.)

Er...um...support your local brewpub--fresh beer tapped close to where it was made is generally more awesome than even really damn good beer you pick up fortunately enough at the six-pack shack--and they usually have given thought to feeding your beer-drinking hide whilst you are there.
