We had a wedding cake tasting yesterday
I felt very Becky Bloomwood ala "Shopaholic Ties the Knot."

Haruka, the future MIL, and myself went to this tres good independent baker in NONJ -- she's actually a finalist to be on a Food Network cake challenge. We came up with something we wanted that she had never made before, and she made little tasting cupcakes up in the cake and buttercream flavor we wanted, along with other flavors. YUMMO!!!!!!!! We talked designs, etc., and the contract is signed an the deposit put down on a three-tiered stacked spice cake with Irish whiskey buttercream frosting, champagne-colored fondant ribbons around each tier's base, and a Celtic eternity knot in fondant on the middle tier.

Then, we all went out to lunch, where I TOTALLY bonded with the future MIL. It went scarily well. Scarily, because the MIL is kinda bonkers.

We also chose our invitations yesterday, and Pacifist Patriot has booked her flight and rental car.

This makes it so real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Do you need a cure for butterflies in the tummy?
Sorry, I don't have one. The cake design sounds lovely. Say hi to the the fiancee for me.

5. OMG -- it was so good
You know, you so rarely get to eat REAL cake anymore -- cake made from all natural ingredients and from scratch. It's sooooooooo much better than even the best boxed cake, or even good commercial cake like Entennman's, etc.

She had never made whiskey frosting before, so, to quote her: "I just kept adding whiskey to the buttercream until it tasted good!"

And, I mean EVERYONE -- aunts, cousins, cousins' childhood friends, etc.

Oh boy.

It seemed to go well, and everyone was very nice to me and very excited about the upcoming nuptials. Haruka's aunt wants to decorate the reception hall. We said yes. :scared:

27. You owe me a keyboard
I just salivated profusely all over mine! Upset stomach on the day of...take ginger, unless you need something stronger for nerves. Ireland would be cool for a h'moon. However, a suggestion if you can't swing something at that time of year...we went to Banff, Alberta - Canada this year over the Christmas//Hanukkah/Winter Solstice holidays, and it was perfect! I'd go back many more times if I could (we're looking at Newfoundland for this year's holidays).

40. Ginger was what I was thinking
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 06:36 AM by LostinVA
Getting stoned would work, except I don't know where to get pot and I don't want the giggles during the ceremony. Pacifist Patriot might kill me. Those Unitarians are ready to snap at any moment, you know.

I would LOVE to go to Prince Edward Island sometime.

29. Sounds excellent! Some people might think that
the wedding cake is an inconsequential detail, but I have to say I still have a good memory of my wedding cake, even though I've been divorced for a few years now. It was beautiful and delicious, and it didn't cost us much at all as my ex's cousin was the baker...it was just a hobby of his and he did an amazing job.

33. wedding cake tasting was the only thing about wedding planning I liked
I love my husband and I'm glad we're married, but I HATE event planning so planning my wedding was ridiculously annoying for me. The cake tasting though was very fun though!

Congrats on getting along with your future MIL...that goes a looong way for a smoother marriage. ;)
