Man Beaten, Stabbed By 7 Lesbians
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 11:48 AM by newyawker99
<snip>

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK A man who was beaten and stabbed after a street fight with seven avowed lesbians testified Wednesday that he thought he was going to die after they jumped him last year.

"I remember being surrounded, my hands up in my face," Dwayne Buckle testified at the trial of four of the women. "I went up into a defensive position. I felt a nick in my abdomen. I had my two hands in front of my face."

He said he didn't realize he had been stabbed.

"Somebody told me I was stabbed," he said. "As soon as he said that, I felt it. I lay down on my knapsack. I was hollering and screaming. I felt like I was going to die."

Buckle, 29, said he was in a hospital for five days and in bed at his Queens home for a month after undergoing surgery for a lacerated liver and stomach. He said he also suffered cuts, bruises, scratches and an eye injury in the attack.

Buckle, who has called the incident "a hate crime against a straight man," was testifying in Manhattan's state Supreme Court at the trial of Patreese Johnson, 20, Renata Hill, 25, Venice Brown, 19, and Terrain Dandridge, 20, all of Newark, N.J.

The defendants are charged with first- and second-degree assault and gang assault. Johnson, accused of stabbing Buckle, also is charged with second-degree attempted murder. All have pleaded not guilty.

5. Agreed
I certainly do not condone armed assault and attempted murder, but I'd still like to know what started the fight.

8. I wonder it there is more to it also. But still ...
trading verbal insults is not a good reason to resort to physical violence. But even worse, one of the gals stabbed him?? Shit! - tough crowd!

10. Indeed.
She says she did it defensively, but why would she need a knife to defend herself against one man, when they are surrounding him and beating him up?

24. I was there - He said something like
"You're very pretty", and then he was attacked by a group of women.
He was always in front of the IFC theatre - he was one of the West Village's fixtures, so to speak. I've seen him there often, and I saw him get attacked.
I was told by the police I was might get called as a witness, but I wasn't. I'm glad they received their sentences - I believe the court was too easy on them.

Here's the thread from the original incident, when it happened. Most of the respondents on the thread would have hung him. I found that humorous/yet pathetic at the same time. No one was paying any attention to what I wrote -- and I was there -- I callled the police -- He was violently attacked. End . Of . Story.

26. Well it's good that they got their sentences then
I don't understand their motivations for being this violent. It saddens me really.

29. Here's how DU works: White guy accused of rape, he's guilty. White guy gets beat up,
it's his fault.

That's pretty much the standard response here on DU. There are a few intelligent people who don't do that, but it's guaranteed that in any thread, that's how the majority will fall.

6. Their own position isn't very clear either.
"As I got my knife, Renata hit him for spitting," Johnson's statement says. "Then everyone jumped in because he is a man. Then some young men had helped us. After that we walked away. I admit I did cut him one time for my own safety."

I just don't know what to make of this. Apparently this started with one of the women and the dude exchanging insults.

12. Why did the station put "lesbians" in the headline?
Isn't that as bad as emphasizing "black" in a hypothetical news story about a crime committed by a group of black men against a white victim?

Sounds to me like the guy catcalled one of them, and they took offense. It escalated. In their anger, they committed a violent crime. Maybe the story is about mob mentality, maybe it's about women getting pissed off about catcalls, but I don't see how it's about sexual orientation.

16. True, however if they wanted to be truly PC, then they would have put
Citizen stabbed by 7
It works, but for the general semi-illiterate public, not very catchy.

18. Hmmm...
"...She just started dogging me out, being loud and disrespectful," he said. "I think I called her an elephant and told her I wasn't talking to her."

Well, you "think" you called her an elephant, yet SHE was "being loud and disrespectful"? And you are wondering why you were attacked?

Now, in no way do I condone violence, and this man did not deserve to be attacked and stabbed. But honestly, I'll forgive myself for not having a pity party for him. It sounds like he was behaving like an asshole, propositioning one of the women that he found attractive, and can't believe he got attacked by a bunch of women. I wonder if he'd call someone in a group of seven men an "elephant", and expect to get away with it? Dumbass.

23. That's absurd
As someone said upthread, it's not good for verbal confrontations to descend into physical ones. Also, if someone starts calling another person names, it's perfectly reasonable to expect the second person to retaliate. That's life. You call me a dick, I'll probably call you an asshole. It's totally possible that the woman was being "loud and disrespectful" first, and the elephant remark was just part of trading barbs.

I think it's not unreasonable to call someone an elephant without expecting to be stabbed, in daylight, on a city street.

22. I saw a similar thing happen in Silver Spring, MD about 20 years ago
I think some guy made some sort of comment, and a group of women, dressed in a stereotypically lesbian manner, beat the shit out of him in front of the Tastee Diner at about three AM......I was inside the diner with some co-workers with whom I was burning some midnight oil trying to get a Proposal out the door..
