Went to the doctor and suddenly I have high BP. Took my midterm
and got 94% (yay!) and in a couple of minutes the STBE and I will go sign a contract with a new realtor. We're lowering the house price because apparently the stress is killing me. All in all, an interesting day.

3. As long as I'm not dead, all is well.
I've never had high blood pressure before so I do believe it's stress but who knows? I'm going to have to get the cardio exercises going. :puke: :)

4. 152/100.
Six months ago it was 120/80. I have to think about what to do: this was a gyn visit, not my regular physician. Him, I have to call.

6. Was it before your test?
You should talk to your doc

but exercise, better diet, stress reduction (i know that one is hard) then meds

that's not terribly high, you wouldn't want sustained pressure like that for a long time though

7. Oh, it's always been 120/80, except when I get diagnosed with
a new disease and I'll get 130/90 or something. Exercise will help? Normally I never stop moving but I haven't moved for an entire year because of the depression etc. This is Fate's way of kicking me in the lazy ass, presumably.

14. yes, exercise!
especially some cardio, like walking.

when i was first diagnosed with high blood pressure the doctor had me riding my bike 30 min a day. didn't work. then diuretics and they didn't work, then on a variety of meds that sucked.

finally a med that controlled it and had no side effects that were noticed. been on it ever since.

the fates are kickin' your ass! but one reading is not adequate for diagnosing hypertension. you really need to have readings from different times of day, when you are relaxed vs. when you are tense, etc.

one time readings don't mean much. i mean it could have been a bad reading, stress about your test or crazy people who write you, or who knows?

at any rate, you should follow up, but i wouldn't sweat it at this point. HBP is pretty easy to conrol, and pretty cheap to control as well nowadays.

10. Misunderstood the question.
Yes, it was before my test. Normally I don't freak out about exams but the last couple days my hands have been shaking from stress - my schoolwork, the weather, the house & other things.

5. Did the doctor put you on something?
Pressure is certainly a product of stress -- and you've had plenty of that.

Congratulations on your midterm!

8. Thank you my dear.
I'm so happy to be done with the midterm I can't tell you. Nope, no meds yet. This was an gynecological appointment and I need to call my regular doc to talk about meds. Bah! :hi:

I was shaken up at the office but now I'm preparing my strategy for regaining health & well-being. I'm always impressed by how new shitty things pop up to fuck with my head. :P

11. Assume the machine isn't calibrated properly
Problems like high BP tend to just go away if you ignore them:sarcasm:

15. If the machine's broken that would just give three false readings
Or you could listen to the other advice from people in this thread, who probably don't know as much as I do about clean, healthy, wholesome living.

16. When I would see my oncologist
My BP was always way high (130/100, my normal, even when giving birth, is 110/70). They (onco office) were worried about it until I had 2 different Dr. appointments in 1 day and, at the 2nd dr, BP was back down to normal. I finally had them check it before my onco appts and right after and it was always lower afterwards. Stress really can mess you up. I'm done with the onco now and haven't had but 1 incident where it skewed high, and that was after a funny test result and I had to have a biopsy done (everything turned out to be normal). Stress has a definite effect on my BP.

I would go to my regular dr. and have them re-check BP. Sounds like a stressful day!

18. It's been a stressful year and at times beyond my ability to cope.
I guess I should have expected this. I do know about "whitecoat hypertension" and ten to have that, but there's a lot going on in my world right now and it's probably making it worse. I'm awfully glad the biopsy was normal and you are okay!

22. I have white-coat syndrome.
Despite the fact that I really like my primary care doctor, my BP always shoots up when I have an appointment with him. Every few years he makes me check it outside of the office for a period of time (usually 3 weeks worth of readings) and send them in to him.

It is always in the normal range when I'm away from him. This year, he really freaked and made me do an EKG test as well. All is normal.

Look, doctor, I'm here to see you because I found a lump in my breast and I'm freaking because I'm worried about cancer. It isn't really high BP, but I appreciate his concern. Oh, and it wasn't cancer either. :)
