Poll question: How happy are you? On a scale of 1-10?
1 being "Totally unhappy" and 10 being "Totally ecstatically happy"

Me, I'm at about 9 right now...Sure, I could use more $$ and wish my parents' health was better, but otherwise, I'm absolutely happier than I have ever been, seriously.

How about you? And why?

:hi:

1. I'm a 9 too
I have a wonderful husband, two wonderful kids who are kind and generous and make me very proud, a snuggly old cat whom I adore, true friends and dear siblings. I am a lucky person in the grand scheme of things.

12. bit of a downer but truly I am a ONE
I left the best job ever due to ugly politics firing my adored mentor (whom avoids me like the plague because he is too upset over what happened and blames himself for dragging me into an ugly mess) that has caused me to be blacklisted from the government. Right now I am working a temporary job with little security (that ends at the end of June) has sucky benefits so I have to have COBRA with my health insurance that took almost 3 months to get done because my former employer dragged their heels. Now I can't even work because I am sick with a health issue (probably an enlarged spleen) due to a chronic blood condition that wasn't bothering me at all since last July until a week ago. And I still have a week before I get results and figure out how to treat this condition. Next week I have to try to work to bring in some income (no paid leave or disability) despite the fact that I feel completely worn out and just getting up and walking around exhausts me. As a friend put it "its raining cats and dogs" for me....
:-(
On the plus side: I have too loving kitties who are good company and I have lots of time to post on DU and talk to all my cool friends here:)

15. I'm at a 4 *sigh*
Terribly worried about some of the choices my son is making these days, and after moving out on him, I'm feeling a little lonely.

I do like my new apartment ok, and I'm sleeping better now that I live alone.

I guess I believe at some point my son will learn what it is he needs to learn, and come back to at least some of the values I tried to teach him. I just hope he doesn't totally mess up his future in the meantime.

"Letting go" is a hard one. I think harder than most people can imagine.

And I won't have to wear a frilly dress, just a sari and get my mehndi done. And my Dr's switched my medication because I'm doing so well, and everything checks out. That's all off the top of my head.

29. I voted a 6
I love my job and find it very rewarding, but I can't work 24 hours a day. My relationship with my wife has become such a rollercoaster that from one day to the next I never know what kind of mood she's in and the constant fighting and bickering between her and her son, then me and her son, then me and her after she defends him for something they just argued over is at times very straining. And on top of that I'm on the verge of bankruptcy.

Life's grand, at least today it is.............:banghead:

30. voted 8 for a couple reasons, firstly no one had yet and i was all like, "Awww...
poor little guy." so i voted for his ass, could have voted 9 though; i look around our place here and it's reasoned, orderly, cozy with recent homey purchases i.e. a night light, persian rug (no, i'm not an iranian spy if the NSA is reading this), but stuff that pulls it all together a little bit more & more by & by so there's that (hubby is a cancer/leo and is big on home stuff so i just let him go as it benefits the both of us)

i also spoke with Sugar and that was nice, been trying to call back since as she mentioned she had to go, but her line just rings...i'll catch her one of these times from that thread that would like to pass along "Thanks!" and "Hi there!!", i have her number in my cell finally  i just wish she'd answer so i can know it's the right one

Score decreasing factors

~I don't live in NYC.

~I work at *$ and I hate coffee.

~Despite sending out 500 resumes, I have zero interest from NYC non-profits.

~I have been headhunted by PeTA Foundation...who want me to move to Norfolk, VA. (I've been. It's a vast suburban, southern, Navy-town. Some people dig it because it's warm, has beaches, and lots of bars. It's not my cup o' tea.). I'm probably moving to Norfolk, VA...and VA is not where I want to be.

Score increasing factor

~I'm not homeless.

54. Not even close to being
happy right now. Bad health, and progressively getting worse; can't walk or climb stairs; hate my doctor; increasingly more poor all the time; bills piling up; dealing with family members whose health is just as piss poor; clinical depression as well.

Other than that, house is a mess that needs to be cleaned--when I get enough energy to do it; I'm very isolated because of my health as well--It's a whole other story trying to get out when your legs are so weak that every step you take could be the one where your knee buckles and you fall down the stairs. No car right now, either.

Sorry if I'm in any way depressing others, but life ain't so much fun lately right now, and the future isn't anticipated with any kind of hope or enjoyment.

I's been a rough week. I have come realize I have no future at my job and apparently they don't think I am worthy enough to interview for a more advanced position. Well, fuck them anyway. I'll go somewhere and show them.

And I am so incredibly lonely. I haven't been in any sort of relationship (except the very superficial kind) for many years. I am almost 39; I think I'm past my shelf life or something.

63. oh yes-- a bunch of us are getting together sunday night at my house...
...and I'm doing classic pot roast, baked mac and cheese, roast veggies, and salad. It's a regular sunday night thing, dinner rotation and dear friends. But this summer I'll be adding road trips to visit friends in southern Humboldt and Colorado, and hosting one of my ex's-- and my best friend ever-- for a Sierra Nevada trip. And, yes, food is always a big part of how I express my love for friends and family. When you cook for the folks you love, you do good work.

I'm going to be a RN very soon and start the exact job I wanted in June after graduation. My husband is going back to school for what he wants and will be done by the end of the Summer. I unexpectedly came back to DU. We both get to quit jobs we hate and are done by the end of May. The kids are great. Tough stuff- I have to get through a lot of school work in the next month, study like hell for my nursing boards, and I need to get back into shape again.

Overall though, I'll take. :hi:

73. Eight. I could concentrate more on my health, my commute bugs, and
I miss California so badly I frequently cry.

But I feel overall that life is good.

Have a wonderful husband, beautiful 9 year old daughter who is handling her illness quite well (was diagnosed Type 1 diabetic back in December after a stint in the hospital, 2 days in ICU where we almost lost her,) a 10 month old son who I absolutely adore, and the last baby rumbling around in my tummy due in May. Life has been hectic and has thrown us quite a few tests in the past 6 months, however we have pulled through and have survived all of the rough spots. Without the support of my loving family, it would have been nearly impossible to deal with all that has been put in front of us.

77. Wasn't easy
finding out that I was 3 months pregnant on Halloween, when we just thought that my body had not returned to normal after having my son last June. No symptoms at all, just the loss of the monthly visitor. First test was negative, so we just went on with life. Decided to take another test before Halloween to eliminate the possibility of being pregnant and was shocked to see it positive. The ultrasound on Halloween showed me being 12 weeks along. Another boy.
My daughter's illness was a major shock, as to where no one in our families are diabetic and we did not know the symptoms. She was in complete diabetic ketoacidtosis and if I would have let her go to sleep, she would have gone into a coma and not waken up. She was life flighted 200 miles away from me and I drove every single day to see her. My wonderful parents stayed with her every hour of the day, as to where I had to be back and forth, seeing my OB/Gyn and my son being sick for the first time.
We have managed and pulled through. Life can throw you all sorts of jagged edges into the puzzle, however with love and faith in that things will turn out just fine, things sort themselves out.
Thank you for the
Here is one back to you!!

78. I'm a nine
and I say that while I am about 140k in debt. The only 2 things that could push me to the ten spot, would be 1. no more debt, and 2. W & cronies being tossed out on their arses. (eh, and maybe a dishwasher :) )

But, I've got an awsome husband, a beautiful, most wonderful babe in the whole world, and a roof over my head. I don't really need more than that.
