snoring.

That's a first.

I don't have a computer at home so I use the one at the library. Usually it is just fine.

I think there are some homeless people who come in and use the computers. Maybe they have to look busy or the help will ask them to go back outside.

We live in an odd world.

Oh! I think he just woke up. Too bad the library doesn't have a full service bathroom - complete with shower.

3. The people at the Chicago Public Library are pretty scrupulous about that.

About not allowing the homeless to sleep in the library.

I really don't have a problem with that.

4. Me either. But I guess it could get problematic if a lot of homeless
people just sort of took over the library.

This is pretty odd because I am in Riverside, Mo - a very small town - and one wouldn't expect homeless people here. Downtown, yes.

I'm starting to wonder how long its been since he had a meal.

7. I know. I know that the CPL people don't want the library to be turned into a shelter.
I understand that. But damn...especially when it gets nasty outside...cold, inclement weather...why can't homeless people just be allowed to take refuge in the library for a while?

But I understand the rationale of allowing the library to be thought of as some sort of shelter.

5. It's so tough to find places to just rest when you're homeless
Been there, done that. I think it would be enlightening for people to just take a day and spend it, with no money, on the street and figure out what to do with that time. We often think what it's like to be homeless at night or in bad weather but I think we seldom think about the mundane existence of just existing - without anything to look toward.

Just a thought.

However, I think I'd find a better part of the library to nap.

6. Yea - he could go back in the back in the stacks. It probably
would be hours before anyone really noticed.

Lots of people fall asleep reading back there.

8. True..
I was homeless for a few months.. The hard part was killing time during the day. I had places to sleep. It was 9am to 8pm that was a bitch. Luckily it was during the summer. I would go to the park and sleep on the grass.

9. Ah. Being homeless has to be awful. And I might end up
exactly like that. I lost my job and I am in my late 50's. No one wants to hire someone like me. But I'm sure I'm not alone. There may be millions of aging boomers living on the streets here pretty soon.
